I load on a table where I shoot. I put the base of the mag on the table and hold it with my left hand (I'm right handed). I press the base of the previously loaded round with my left thumb, then with the thumb of my right hand pressing down on the new round, press the rest of the previously load round into the magazine and slide the new round into the magazine. It helps to tap the magazine to straighten out the rounds in order to get that last round in there.

It works, but it can be tough on the thumbs.

Recently I bought a Maglula Uplula and it has saved my thumbs tremendously. Works with single stack and double stack 9 through 45's.

Best $30 I've spent in a long time.

Plus one on the Uplula. I have an additional problem in that I can load the 7+1Mag with the Uplula but the 6-round mag fooled me. I finally realized after many failed Uplula attempts to have brass show in each witness hole, I couldn't do it. The witness holes on the six round magazine I have are numbered 1–7. Once you get to six rounds, the 7th round hole show a section of fully compressed magazine spring: no room!

The finger rest and non-finger rest magazine bodies appear the same with the only apparent difference being the Plus One floor plate.

Error or by design or both?

My 9mm Shield had a backwards mag spring in one of the brand-new mags.
Check 'em.
Mag-Lulas are great kit!

Sounds like you have the shield .40? Are the mags stamped .40? .40 shields have 7 rnds for the extended mag and 6 for the flush mount and 9mm have 8 and 7. Almost sounds like you are loading .40 into the 9mm mags but the feed lips on 9mm mags are smaller and won't let you load .40.

So the question is do you have flush mount .40 cal mags that are stamped with 7 round witness holes? If so it sounds to me like you got a factory mistake.

Oh and the larger capacity mag bodies are different. It's not a plus one follower it's actually a little sleeve thing that can actually slide off. Oh, unless you're talking about the shield .45... in which case I'm not sure about anything I just said

EDIT: just looked up some pics of the 45 shield and that must be what youre talking about. They use the same mag body stamped to 6 with +1 on the last witness hole. So the plus 1 obviously will only show brass on the extended mag
They just did that to save a little money and minimize inventory. Smart way to do it all be it a little bit confusing

I always take new Shield mags and dis-assemble, clean and lube. Those things are crusty bone dry from the factory.

What ammo are you using? I have this issue with my Sig P220 mags and Wold ammo. The ammo works in every other gun that has metal mags but I can't load more than 4 rounds in a P220 mag. It feels like it's full and won't go down further.

All a mag loader has to do is compress the previous round so you can load the next one. They don't need to have springs, levers and do-dads.
These work well, and come in several colors if you don't like orange.
They list them for $9 each, but I got mine for $8 on E-bay.
They are made specifically for the Shield, instead of a one-size fits all for both single and double stack magazines.

It's a .45 ACP. Confusing is the wrong word. Very interesting...but dumb! Bean counters must be involved.

Bean counters indeed. Confusing isn't really the right word. I wouldn't say dumb though. They are a business after all and anything you can do to cut costs is a good thing as long as it doesn't cause more problems than it's worth. They probably thought about it and said "yeah, there'll be a few people that think it's dumb, but will it stop them from buying our guns? Probably not...."

I like the gun. Mislabeling a magazine is dumb.

Yup. Does not accurately represent the product. What's your counter?

No, I get it... I just think dumb would be doing it on accident. This seems to be deliberate to save some manufacturing costs...which I personally don't fault them for.

Maybe you just wanna call them cheap *******s

Hey, it worked on faulty air bags and fixed emission tests for a while.

"Stupid" works. Being inadvertently dumb about a component to a lethal weapon is stupid all by itself and includes dumb.

On the other hand, what I have may be a packaging error. I'll see in the 8–12 weeks it takes to get my "rewards" which includes two magazines.

We just have a little different way of looking at it I guess. But that's what makes the world turn. I stil enjoyed our little debate.

The advantage of the Uplula is that it works with many brands of mags. I own S&W, Ruger, Colt, and Beretta pistols in 9 and 45 and it will help load them all, both single and double stack

Like others have already said, get the UpLuLa mag loader. Your thumbs will thank you. After a while, the mags become somewhat easier to load, but I still use the UpLuLa.
