Default M&P9 M2.0 5”

Hi guys,

I’ve been reading the forums for a while and finally decided it’s time to post.

I currently have a 9mm Shield and love it, I’m very interested in picking up a 5” M2.0 but have a couple of questions.

I was down at my LGS and talked to a few guys who said the ejection pattern of the 5” is erratic and tends to throw the brass in your face; most likely due to the loaded chamber indicator. Do any of you guys who have them experience that?

Also, I’m not a huge fan of the thumb safety. Does anyone know if I could plug them like on the other full size M&Ps with the plugs from Smith?

Thanks,

Evan

This is the first I’m hearing of any ejection pattern issues...not sure where they’re getting that from other than maybe personal experience?? Maybe they were shooting reloads?

On mine the slide reciprocation feels different than the 4.25 or the compact (which is to be expected) but it feeds everything I’ve put in it and chucks brass well away from me. The LCI has no effect on anything for me other than cosmetics.

Yes, S&W will send you frame plugs for free if you ask nicely.

FYI, my 5” is the most accurate handgun I own. Popping an 8” plate at 35 yards at speed feels like nothing...it’s crazy good. You won’t regret it.

I just purchased an M&P 2.0 5 inch and couldn't be happier, Apex tactical sells a filler for the lci. The ejection on mine is just fine as I did try two factory reloads and two factory new ammo and eat it just fine. And just got my frame plugs from S&W so life is good.

I've had my 2.0 9mm 5" fde for many months and the ejection pattern is consistent no matter the ammo. Factory or my own reloads... I've never had any issues with this fine handgun, it just keeps chucking and chucking them at strong right angles.....

Steve..

Get one ... they run great and are very accurate. I hate plastic but I love this pistol.

Like the others, mine has never thrown brass in my face, or anywhere close that I've noticed. Easy to take out the safety, and the plugs S&W sent me were easy to install. There's a youtube video on how to do it.

Very happy with the gun. Accurate and a very nice trigger.

I've had my 5" FDE model for about 2 weeks now, no ejection issues. I immediately dropped in the Apex flat trigger kit. Gun shoots well beyond my ability. On a different note, does anyone know of a good duty type holster for this pistol, preferably one that will accommodate a Surefire X300U weapon light?

Same here, I haven't heard anything about this, at all. Probably an isolated report, I wouldn't let it disuade you.
That being said, I have long been curious as to why I was seeing so many of these on my local classified sites (but I've been also wondering that about the new gen5 Glocks, whcih most owners seem to rave about, too.)
Anyway, I installed a thumb safety in a M&P9L a while back, and as already mentioned, installing or removing it is stupid-simple, and S&W is great about helping out with free knick-knack parts like these plugs.

I had a 5" MP40 it was the best shooting .40 I owned next to a 229. I know you're asking about 9mm but my .40 ran flawlessly with no erratic ejection. I didn't mind the safety since it wasn't a carry weapon for me. If it was I would have removed it. But it was too large for me to carry imo. I have since sold it to purchase an M9A3. But I missed it so I ended up getting the new MP9 FDE with TFX sights and the 4.25" barrel to replace it. Hopefully it shoots as well as the .40 did.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I doubted it was an issue, but some people were talking about it at the local range but I was pretty sure they were full of it. Just wanted to make sure.

I’ll definitely be picking one up once the holiday bills are paid. I really love the new 2.0 texture, plus the 5” just feels so right in the hand.

I have noticed some shooters who use wimp ammo and hold the pistol loosely can induce erratic ejection and other issues in any of the M&Ps and some other similar pistols of other brands.
I think you already know what the solution is for this kind of "gun problem".

Most definitely, I took people new to firearms to the range with me and when they had a bad grip that cause malfunctions specially with M&P's but that was not fault to the gun. Low power ammo specially reloads can cause malfunctions in any gun, I had Freedom munitions that experience with been inconsistent and low power in general.

probaby a rumor started by a Glock guy ;-)

Honestly, I have 3, 5" M&Ps (not 2.0) and never had an issue with consistent ejection (unless caused by lousy reloads) .
