Default 9mm Shield Feed Ramp Issue

Bought a 9mm Shield two weeks ago. The weapon was dismantled, inspected, cleaned and lubed prior to first firing. Within the first 20 rounds I had FTF and FTE issues. I found divots/pitting on the lower edge of the feed ramp when I inspected afterwards. Used AE, Winchester and Blazer brands with 115 grain for the first 20 rds. Thought maybe it was an issue with ammo but all brands had issues. I understand new tight guns can have issues but metal markings on the feed ramp? S&W has no idea but is looking into it. I have a hard time understanding how brass could create those markings. Anyone have similar issues?

That's not normal. Have you sent these photos to S&W? They owe you a new barrel if you bought it new. And an extra magazine for good will.

I assume this has to be used. That feed ramp has had quite a bit of traffic. Almost looks to me like someone tried to polish it and got into it on the lip. My ramp looks nothing close to that and I've had my 9 shield for nearly 2 years and shot it a lot.

Actually it was a brand new gun purchased from Cabela's. That's why I am kind of at a loss for what the issue is. Since I posted this thread Smith and Wesson has gotten back to me and requests that it be sent back for warranty service.

I have the 9mm M&P Compaq (bought new), but I think something is wrong with my feeder ramp as well. Iam getting double feeds with hollow points and 115 grain Winchester range ammo. I contacted S&W and got my shipping label.

I also found that the recoil spring is bent on the aft coil and the aft coil sits higher then all the others. So the slide will not engage to the full forward position it hangs about an eighth of an inch over the back of the bottom frame. I spoke to a local Smith and Wesson gunsmith and he said he commonly fixes the issue where that recoil spring catches on the hardware in the front of the frame not allowing the slide to come full forward.

Defective 9mm recoil springs are an old story with the Shield. S&W will swap that out for you. While rare these days, they still crop up. They should also replace the barrel. That both of those things got through quality control is mind-boggling. They should give you two extra magazines as compensation.
