I hope you have better luck than I did with my replacement Shield .45.The first gun had problems with the slide locking back and magazine dropping out( Slide 17 times in 340 Rounds).I sent it to S&W 3 times , they said it was unrepairable and would send me a new gun. On August,18 the replacement gun arrived at the FFL dealer from whom I had purchased the gun. I went the same day to the range and the Slide locked back 3 times in 123 rounds. Decided to go home , clean the gun and try once more. The slide would not come off the frame, finally gave up and went back to the Gun store to see if they could get it off. They could not get it off either, finally got it off ,but then could not get it back on. To make it a short story, traded it for a Glock 30S. Very disappointed and frustrated with Smith&Wesson. Good Luck!

i have 4 Shields 1 45 2 9mm and a 40, The 40 was bought way back a month or so after they came out. the 9s were bought a short time after that. My Shield 45 was bought about 1 yr ago. All my shield have been 100% reliable and amazingly accurate.
I had the mag drop out issues with my 45I replaced the mag release button and still has the problem. S&W sent me some redesigned followers which fixed the problem entirely. If you call S&W they will send you new followers free of charge.
I have experienced excellent customer service with S&W, Of course I live about 90 min away and can drop off a gun and was for it to be repaired most of the time.
My Shield 45 as been 100% reliable after the follower change

It should ship to your front door unless your city or state says otherwise.

If you want to confirm it call S&W CS
New firearm = new S/N, which means FFL - and since its a California firearm - there is absolutely zero leeway.

It has had issues with failure to extract since day one . No matter the type of ammo it will at some point fail be it the first shot of the day or number 250 .

I have read of this issue going back to 2013 and wish to know if anyone experiencing this issue has had it resolved.

The worst thing about this whole issue is , I really like this pistol. It points well . I shoot it very well and simply enjoy it right up to the moment it fails.

It was intended to be my EDC but for obvious reasons this pistol is worthless to me.

Additionally: I am quite disappointed in S&W . Both their inability to resolve this matter and the lack of integrity their staff has exhibited in dealing with his issue.
Example: The last time my Shield failed. It both had an FTExtract and the trigger mechanism locked up = pistol rendered completely inoperable .

S&W simply shipped it back without telling me what was done and what had gone wrong. After calling and speaking to the CSR I was told they replaced the slide assembly but still no explanation as to why the trigger group locked up.... Not exactly confidence inspiring.

I own many pistols of various makes .
Never have I had a pistol give me so much trouble.

This is my seventh S&W and likely my last. (Correction= 6th)

Yes this has turned into a micro rant, but I wish to know if anyone has had this issue resolved and how.

Thank you & Happy Shootin!

Gawd. Just get rid of that particular pistol and buy another Shield. Sheesh. The Shield 45 is leaps and bounds better than the 9, especially that glorious trigger.
