Default M&P (2.0) 45 acp Ransom Rest

I recently put the full size m&p 2.0 45 in my ransom rest. I tested both Zero 185 jhp as well as Hornady 185 xtp. Those are the only 2 bullets I load and for good reason. The Ransom doesn't lie if it's done correctly .
I used
Winchester xx? fired range brass -properly wet tumbled of course
Cci large pistol primers
Brass was undersized using an egw undersize 45acp die
No crimp , seated bullets to 1.230.
TESTED AT 25 YRDS
Now it's important to note the brass was not trimmed or sorted by length
I used titegroup Accurate 2 and wst powder
AND LOADED IT ALL ON A DILLON 650 PROGRESSIVE PRESS !!!
To test each load I load 6 rounds in a mag and shoot a group accounting for the first "flyer" which is due to my hand cycling the first round , I then measure the 5 remaining. Of the 15 loads I tested none were over 1.57"
With the best load averaging .617" that's 5 rounds 4 times.
The only 45 I have ever tested that did this well is my p227.
THIS M&P 2.0 IS ACCURATE = FUN TO SHOOT

That's impressive. My, or should I say my wife's M&P FSm 9mm (1.0) shoots very well if either of us do our job well.

I like the M&P platform.

I have a suspicion that my 9mm 2.0 is just as impressively accurate. I just don't have the time or ransom rest to prove it.

Thanks for the report.

[QUOTE]Brass was undersized using an egw undersize 45acp die/QUOTE]

Please tell me more about this undersizing die?

That is impressive shooting from a bargain priced gun IMO! Thanks for sharing your info.

With the egw undersize die I get better accuracy as well as 100% reliability.
No Crimping either.

That is impressive & shows the 2.0 is much improved.

I have a 5" (orig 1.0) in .45acp & about the best it will do @ 25 meters is 4" from my homemade Ranson type retention rest.

I kind of gave up on that mod 1 S&W so it now sits in my safe just taking up space. Barrel seemed tight enough but appears to unlock too early.

With the stock barrels in my gen 1- 9mm's (4 & 5") they are 2.5" - 4" guns. However swap to apex and you know have a .75" gun

Any idea on what the Apex barrel is doing better/different? (ie- lock-up, or fit, or rifling, or unlock timing, or???)

I really wanted to add a threaded barrel to my (mod 1) .45 but with the way it scattered shots I didn't want to waste the time or money.

My old (mod 1) has one of the nicest triggers on any of my striker guns, even better than my reworked PPQ. (Apex parts & a good trigger system tune up). No reset feel but I don't shoot off of reset anyhow so it is a non issue.

It's a little bit of all 3. Apex does make a threaded version of this new barrel too.

One thing that is very impressive is that the same loads perform almost identical in all my apex barrels both 4 and 5".
SUPER CONSISTENT, SUPER ACCURATE

That impressive performance... particularly when you consider that polymer-framed guns are not typically well-suited for Ransom Rest testing. Especially impressive if you did NOT resight the gun between shots. (some do that with polymer-framed guns.)

Polymer frames have a bit more flex than do metal frames, and don't always return to the same starting position. If you use the sights (which is sometimes done when Ransom Rest testing poly-framed guns) the polymer-framed guns can be just as accurate as metal-framed guns; without re-sighting, they seldom do as well. (Using the Ransom Rest DOES remove some of the human element.)

.

I have the M&P 2.0 in both 9mm and 40 Cal. Triggers are great out if the box. I'm waiting for Apex to release the FSS kit. That said, I did put an Apex semi drop in barrel. Free hand at 25 yards was just over one inch, at 10 yards same result. If I had a ransom I'm sure I'd be sub one inch.

I found that certain guns can be tightened in much much more than others . M&P's can be tightened ALOT in the ransom and still drop mags etc. Glocks even my 41 when tightened very much the triggers do not reset etc....I do not readjust gun between shots. However most of my guns have dots milled in so I can check the dot to ensure there is NO movement. (Guns with reflex sights are a ransom best friend) If it moves or throws shots I will go back to my pet load and settle/tighten. Bench and ransom CAN NOT MOVE AT ALL.

Did I miss it? What was your grouping result by load and or your best load?

I've always had good luck with Zero and load them for 45, 9mm, and 357 mag. Wish they had a 180gr JHP for 44 mag. If you ever contact the factory, they'll often reference Hornady load data.

I've had good luck with AA5 and Power Pistol for 45 and the 185JHPs in all my M&P 45s, including my Shield.

All I shoot are Zero 185's in 45acp and 124 jhp in 9mm. Sometimes 147 jhp
Accuracy is absolutely amazing. As well as great prices.
I will say I used to get great results with Mastercast (of illinois) lead coated bullets as well as great prices. Not worth messing with the lead when you can get the zero's cheap in bulk.

Just tested my m&p 45c. I shot the tests the same way I always do . I noticed a few things. Loads that functioned perfectly in my full size 45's won't even cyllcle the slide. This little bugger is very soft shooting but it prefers a full power load, at least for the time being. Best groups were also the fastest. Groups were 1.1" - 3". Thats 15 loads tested 4 - 6 shot groups . Averaged. Best group was 185 xtp w. 6.3g of accurate 2 under it loaded to 1.230. Consistent 1.1" @ 25yards.
Next up is the m&p 9c---??????
