Default The rebates had their desired effect

I can imagine that the retailers had a thing or two to do with the recent aggressive rebates from S&W

I imagine the inventory was probably high

S&W, wants to sell more pistols to the retailers (no duh, right?)

As someone pointed out, the amazing crazy deals, are fewer and far between........

its all good and a good practice to move some guns and get the retailers to take NEW boxes ......

Everyone likes a deal, and after rebate prices of $200-to-$250 for a reliable, quality pistol (that has a lifetime warranty) were too good to pass up. I am personally aware of 4 friends who bought Shields during the rebate period, and I did too, so 5 new customers.
One friend bought three Shields (9, 40 & 45)!
If the rebate meant a lower profit margin but the higher volume meant increased overall profits, I'd say it was a win for everyone.

"Desired effect" being to turn this forum and others like it into constant whine-fests about rebate troubles?

I think of all the folks at S&W, PSA, SOS, Milano, etc that got jobs or OT to build, ship and process the sales. Their lives are better, their families are better off financially.
I think of the folks at the ranges, shooting their new Shields, with smiles on their faces. Introducing new folks to shooting, sharing the fun. The ranges have likely benefited too!
S&W Shield rebate, making America great for many people!

Sheeze..... Internet tough guys

I think you may see some very unique rebates coming from other Gun manufacturers as well, as they see how well this program worked for M&P

I keep telling myself I need another M&P40C..........
(My wife doesnt see it that way)

From the CDNN site, I directed people to, At least 3 more people purchased
(Maybe S&W can send me some EXTRA rebate $$)

Take care, God bless

Personally I think they will destroy their business over time with rebates. Regular prices make you think you are getting gouged after realizing just how cheap a gun can be purchased, the low prices linger in your mind and you wait until they do a rebate again.
If you want to sell more guns all the time just lower the prices. If you want to have business spikes then promote rebates, INSTANT REBATES

Smith and Wesson (AOBC) has been investing heavily in ancillary businesses. The purchase of Crimson Trace and most recently Gemtech shows they are intent on capturing significant market share. The best way to get people to buy the profitable accessories is to get as many pistols out there as possible.

The rebates helped move guns that would have otherwise sat around for a long time. Most manufacturers were running full bore right up to the election and then gun sales didn't do to badly for the first couple months of Trump. For the last couple of months buying has take a down turn. Take a look at Rugers and S&W stock prices. They tanked after the election, then rebounded and have now tanked again.

Summer is usually a slow time for the gun industry. It will be interesting to see what happens this fall and winter which is usually the busiest time for purchases.

As a public company, S&W has to have continual profitable growth to keep the stock price up. The CEO of S&W, and his board wake up every day and think about this. If this doesnt work, the shareholders will find some one else

The absolute sad fact is......

In all rebates done, the more hassle and more paperwork that you have to complete, will ensure that a percentage of people dont do the rebate

If the rebate is given up front then 100% of the sales would get a rebate. If only 70% complete the paperwork, then that 30% is a net profit potential

I have heard of some rebates with other mechandise getting only 40-50% completion of needed Paperwork

The Management team at S&W HOPES that you buy a pistol from them, The management team also HOPES that YOU wont fill out the needed paperwork for the rebate
