Default MP 40 Pin Holes

Hey guys,

I just my first mp handgun from summit gun broker. It's an mp .40 and from what I can tell it was manufactured in 2006. Looking at different pictures that some mp handguns have two pins and others only have one. The first picture I attached has one pin at #19 and the second picture has a second pin near where #19 is in the first picture.

The gun I received has the two pin holes and the larger hole has an arrow with the letter L.
Also, it looks like my gun is missing that pin.

Can someone tell me when this change was made? And what the arrow and the letter L signifies? Thinking I might need to buy a replacement pin.

Isn't that for an internal lock. Did a Key come with it (doesn't look like an actual key). Just want to add that if it didn't come with a key it would be a good idea to pick one up.

The large diameter "pin" in the upper right (forward of the rear chassis pin) in the second picture is a filler block for the key hole for the internal lock in an M&P 1.0. The "L" and the directional arrow by the hole shows how to turn the key to activate the internal lock.

The first picture appears to be from some type of manual, the #25 is about where the hole for the manual safety would be placed if the pistol was to be equipped with one. The mounting rail for lights appears to be different from either M&P 1.0 or 2.0. That first picture might feature some prototype firearm or be photo shopped from a standard M&P 1.0.

You only need that "pin" (plug) if you remove the internal lock on your pistol, otherwise it won't fit. Removing the lock isn't rocket science, but it is a pain. If you call S&W, I'm sure they'll send you a key for the internal lock.

Pin #19 at the rear holds in the Sear Housing Block. The 2nd one just forward, is not a pin. it's a plug. It plugs the hole left when the internal lock is removed.

Here's what it looks like installed.
