Default Shield Issue Thread

I think it would be a good idea if owners of various shield models dumped their issues here in a thread for others to see and if they had a solution or fix, that as well. I don't currently have an issue with mine, but see them scattered throughout the forum.

Some Shields have issues some don't. My Shield 45 has had issues, I fixed them. No gun is perfect. Some people expect perfection in a platform that isn't. If you want no issues, spend $3000 or more. Even then you have people with issues. For less than $300 with rebates, etc. I expect some work. Depends on the level of knowledge of the person. This forum is where I find the issues and the fixes.

I think since most Shields have no issues (including 2 i own) there is no need for a centralized “whining thread”.

I have two shields and haven't had any issues with either. They shoot good and are one of the easiest and comfortable pistols I've ever carried.

It's true that most guns in general don't have issues. Alas, that is not true for all guns. It can't hurt to have a consolidated list of the issues and fixes. It would cut down on multiple threads for the same issue.

Got that right!

It isn't as if there's a shortage of "Shield Issue" threads already running on this forum...some of them going back years.

Let's face it. The Shield (in any caliber) is a relatively simple design, which means there's a finite number of things that can go wrong with it. I'd almost bet money every one of them has been covered before somewhere in this forum...up to and including the thing blowing apart in a shooter's hand.

I respectfully disagree.

As someone already said, there are dozens of posts of Shield problems and their solutions and there is a search feature and pretty much everything that could go wrong with a Shield has been asked and answered. Maybe we should have a "How to use search" thread.

Having no where near as many posts as you, I respect your judgment, but I fail to believe a consolidated Shield issue thread would be found and/or used by most people, lots of whom are new members and new pistol owners.

What it would do is make it look like there are more problems than there actually are. But that's just my opinion.

It really hasn't worked all that well for "rebate issues".

My shield suffered from random ejection because the ejector was undersized and moved around freely, but I fixed that... Now there is a quarter inch spot above the S&W logo that rusted, and once the rust was removed the underlying steel is visible and pitted. I'm currently waiting to hear back from S&W

I hate to throw a monkey wrench into the works (well, I really don't ), but that line of thinking just isn't...well, alas, it just won't work for any subject.

Cases in point:

Countless threads about the .38 Special adequate/not adequate for self defense.

Can you kill a grizzly with a .22 rifle (with the same photo posted every time).

Bear guns...a prime source of yawns, jokes, and cartoons.

Best guns for killing snakes. Or hogs. Or raccoons. Or...insert species of your choice here: ______________

Glock vs. S&W

Threads about coyotes. Same as Bear Gun threads.

.45acp vs. 9mm (an almost instantaneous sleep inducing thread). You have no need of Ambien should you stumble into one of those threads.

S&W vs. Every Other Brand on the Planet.

Colt bashing threads.

1911 bashing threads. These threads are like the Tar Baby in that story by Uncle Remus. The harder you try to get away, the more stuck you get.

Even when threads have been combined by the moderators, or locked because it's a Zombie Thread, sure as shootin' someone will come along shortly thereafter and start another thread on the exact same subject.

For some strange reason, folks love to beat on dead horses, even horses that have been dead for years. It's the same on every firearms-related forum I've ever looked at or participated in.

I've never had a problem with my Shield 9. But a thread just for complaints seems useless. Most of the Shield's run just fine considering how many have been sold. I'm sure there is no brand of guns that don't have some issues. As BigDog48 posted a whining thread is as useless as all the threads on "did you get your rebate check yet" have been.

You guys make a good point. We already have some consolidation threads and very few use those. In the "Notable Threads" thread, there already are threads for how to use the search and not many have read that. I'm pretty sure "how to post pictures" has been covered ad nauseam and yet people still ask.

In the end, people are lazy. They would rather post a new thread on an old topic than do even the most simple research. Actually, this thread is not the first time this has been suggested. There has even been a suggestion for a separate Shield forum which got shot down by the moderators.

Then again, it's not rocket science. If you feel there is value in a consolidated thread, make one. All you have to do is do a search, collect the URLs and paste them into a new thread. Then just ask to have it added to the notable threads thread. But I'll bet that doesn't happen because...
