Default Bodyguard 380 Experiences

Bought new about a year ago, no laser, no safety, despite all the bad news posts. First range trip last rd wouldn't feed from either mag, ended up nose up in ejection port. My Lord, they were right! Back to Smith. Returned with new and longer mag springs. Now have 1300 rds thru, perfect and very accurate out to about 15 yds. Much toodo about nothing. Seems you only hear about problem guns, this and the Shield. Love it. So QUIT IT!

Agreed! The Shield (imho), is the king of single stack 9mms! My PC Shield (9mm and factory night sights) is the most accurate pistol I've ever shot!

Default BG .380

I thought this thread was about the BG .380 . Which BTW, after finding the ammo it likes about a year ago, I've run over 600 rounds 100% reliable. I like everything about it

I had the same thing when mine was new. Called S&W, they promptly sent me two new mag springs and followers, and at my request threw in a second flat mag baseplate. The gun has been perfect ever since, through hundreds of rounds. It's my EDC. I shoot it much better than my former carry, a 642. I've got three friends who have bought and carry Sig P238's. Those are sweet little guns, but I'm not the least tempted to buy one. Sticking with my BG.

I agree. I use the American Gunner and Hornady Custom in my BG. In fact all Hornady ammo runs great in a BG.

I love my BG. Bought mine 2 years ago and I did have mag issues back then when it was new. They made me send it back along with both mags. They ended up changing the springs and followers. It's been fine since but I wish they just sent me the parts to install myself.
As for the p238, it's a great pistol and one of the best .380s made. I just would never carry one cocked and locked in a pocket. That's why my favorite .380 is the BG. It's like a lightweight semi-auto that works like a revolver.

Hollow points of any name brand have been 100% reliable for me. Matter of fact ive only had 2 failures in it's entire life and it was the same box of **** ammo.

I recently put a hogue beavertail grip on my BG and it feels amazing in hand now.

As far as my hollow point of choice I am using Precision one as they were proven on youtube to test the best. Even over speer, which came in 2nd.

I have never seen a box of precision one for sale... but i live in commie massachusetts where variety is limited. I've been carrying Federal hshoks and HST's since its what i can find and what works well in my gun. I would buy the speers as gold dots are available here as well.

I own one and have 8 magazines, all with pinky extensions. I fire HST ammo and have had a total of 5 feed issues, all from the same mag. It's a great little hide out gun, although I prefer to carry my 9mm Shield.

One only has to go back 15 years or so to find that many dreamed of a reliable, sub 15 oz, flat as a pancake, medium caliber carry gun. I was one of them. So I bought my first in the first production run (which reportedly had all kinds of issues.) It has run flawlessly for me for hundreds of rounds. So much so that I purchased a second non-laser M&P model a few months back . Love these little guns for what they are. Completely understand their limitations of what they are not.

Default Bodyguard 380 Experiences

I have problems with the Bodyguard, in particular the area between the thumb and forefinger of my shooting hand. The small size is great, very concealable. But I need to correct this. Any suggestions?

Yep, and this is why you try before you buy. There are even some people on discussion boards who complain about the BG who've never shot theirs before selling it. I read one guy sold his because it was too difficult to field strip

However, for many of us BG owners, the little pistol is perfect for our needs and exactly what we knew it was before purchasing it. Some of us even shoot it as well as our Shields and darn near as accurately.

Precisely this^. It's about research, trying before you buy, practice and the right expectations. No gun can be everything to everyone. Have had my pre-M&P BG380 for 6 years, and with good brass ammo it's been super reliable. I knew going in it had a long, revolver-like trigger pull--reduces the probability of an accidental discharge.
Added grey Talon Grips and XS Big Dot sights and it's part of my summer carry rotation. S&W replaced the old Insight laser when it died with the (better) Crimson Trace, gratis.

I’ve been through all the little .380 pistols and all of them choked sooner or later. Recently picked up a Taurus TCP on a whim and it has been perfect. I believe it’s just pure dumb luck whether you get a good one or not.

I'm planning on picking up an RM380 when the sale starts tomorrow. This Remington has a trigger pull that makes the Bodyguard seem like a Shield but you won't hear me whining. I've fired one a few times and loved it. I just wasn't willing to pay what the dealers wanted but now they're practically giving them away.

My M&P bodyguard does exactly what it was meant to do, hide well. And with its useable sights it groups pretty well too. My only issue is that the slide doesn't lock back. Coming from an LCP that doesn't bother me much, but it'd be nice if it worked. Someday I'll get around to sending it in.

I sold my BG over a year ago - I keep waiting for the rumored announcement of the BG 2.0. Here it is - way into November and no announcement. I hope I'm wrong - but it's beginning to look like they're not going to update it. Too bad if they don't - I think a mini-Shield in .380 would be great ...

Sooooo .... they've introduced the M&P 2.0, 2.0 Compact, Shield 2.0, a couple of primo 686's, and a 7.62 rifle a couple of days ago ... and they're saving the BG 2.0, the crown jewel of the shooting world's eye, for SHOT??

Terrible to shoot. Looong takeup stiff trigger. 10 foot gun at best. But it is super easy to conceal and pretty reliable.
