Can 9mm Shield be pocket carried?
Title says it all. I often times pocket carry my S&W Mod 36 in a Nemesis pocket holster. Will I be able to do the same with a yet unpurchased Shield 9?

Depends upon the pockets, Carharrt washed duck work pants, fine. Levis, probably not.
Also, if it's your primary/only carry, probably not your best choice. You don't want to have to stand up to access your protection.

I have several jeans and shorts that work fine for carrying the Shield. I often pocket carry with a Remora when I go out to walk my dog.

Bob Mika made me a pocket holster for my shield. It just depends on the pants you wear.First thing I check pants for is deep pockets that can carry a firearm.

You should try it out first. I wouldn't dream of pocket carrying a Shield. I didn't even like pocket carrying a P938, which is considerably smaller than a Shield. But different people have different tolerances for size and weight.

Sure. As long as your willing to make an adjustment to your wardrobe..
That said, if pocket carry is the goal, the BG380 is hard to beat.

No problem.
I carry a Springfield XDm2 double stack. .45 ACP compact in a pocket holster on a regular basis. The Shield 9 is somewhat smaller.
Cargo pants are fine, but only in the side pocket, not one on the leg. It's too far from your hand and flops around too much. Most of the time regular casual dress pants are fine if you make sure the pockets are not too "European" in cut. If your hand will fit up to your watch with your fingers relaxed, you're good to go.
I've worn jeans too, selected as above. The longer you carry, the less self conscious you feel about it. NOBODY NOTICES. The formless bulge of a pocket holster might as well be a wallet or cell phone.

As others have mentioned, the pocket is the determining factor. I have been doing so for the last few weeks in a DeSantis Nemesis. It worked best with jeans. In cargo pockets it went sideways. In the slash pocket of the same pants it fit well but the weight made it slap around in the light fabric. Noticeably heavier than the 642 or RM380 that preceded it. Needed a snug belt to avoid going "gangsta". One pair of Carhart shorts left the butt (of the gun) peeking out.
I never intended the Shield to be a pocket gun, just decided to see if it would work and was pleasantly surprised. Another version of "dressing around the gun". I reverted to the RM380 today.

Me, too. I wear ordinary Dockers-style khakis and I have no problem pocket carrying my Shield .45, which is slightly larger than the Shield 9, I which I also have pocket carried. Prior to my Shield .45, I pocket carried my chunky ol' M&P 40c for two years until it had to go back to S&W for a light strike problem it developed after 8500 rounds. (It's still there.) Fortunately, the same model Nemesis pocket holster can be used for all three pistols.

Can it be done? Of course it can! Anything is possible depending on your wardrobe and what you're willing to put up with.
It never worked for me ( one major reason I'm selling off my Shields), but maybe that's because I've got far better options to choose from.

Unless you are 7ft with large pockets, the shield is too large IMHO
If I HAD to pocket carry, a little 38 seems to draw a little faster
I did the pocket carry for a few years with a Kahr CM9, after thinking about it and practicing, I moved back to IWB
Quick questions for all those that pocket carry
1) How do you draw when you are sitting down?
2) How do you draw if your main hand is injured?
3) How do you draw if you are in a tussle, and the fight is on the ground?
4) Practice the Tueller drill, can you do this from a pocket draw, in reasonable times?
If you can do all these things, you are a better man than me

I don't think that anyone believes that pocket carry is ideal or even terribly good in all situations. It's a compromise that some of us choose, or are forced, to live with.
But you know that.

Same here, except I use DeSantis's Super Fly holster. Does a much better job of keeping it from rotating slide-side-down in my pocket. I tested a bunch of different cargo pocket pants/shorts to make sure I have room to draw even when sitting. Cablea's Tactical pants, 5.11 Stryke and Carhartt Force Tappan all work great for me. They also all have extra pockets for spare magazines, glasses, etc.

I carry my lcp in my front pocket as a backup on occasion or in situations where I cannot carry anything bigger. I own pants that will hold my Shield 9 but none that allow me to draw with any speed or consistency.

I'd say that it depends on your physical size too. If you're not busy a littler skinny guy your clothes are adjusted to fit. If your my size (200+lbs), I can put a Shield in my Nemesis holster and easily retrieve it in all but my tightest jeans.

I just can't believe people think it's too heavy. It's 19 oz. Too big I can understand, depending on your pockets. I can see that it would be too heavy for an ankle holster, because of the swing of your leg. But in a side jeans pocket, it doesn't swing any more than in IWB.

In a perfect world, I might prefer a buscadero holster with a steel liner, made for quick draw. In the real world, concealment is better, and pocket carry covers nearly all social situations, even if imperfectly.
When my spider sense turns orange, I put my hand on the grip as unobtrusively as possible. From that position, it is just as fast to draw as from a belt holster at 4:00. Best of all, if the threat doesn't materialize, no one is the wiser.
I can draw from a sitting position, even when driving. If I'm wearing a jacket, I make sure it is outside the seat belt. It takes a little longer, but it's better than a frightened stare. The pistol isn't going anywhere if I hit something. am hit, or stop suddenly.
I'm not a real fan of Kydex, but it's the easiest solution of your pistol is not strictly OEM. I use a Detroit Holster product, to fit the Xdm with a Crimson Trace laser under the barrel.

I OWB my 9c but pocket carry my Keltec PF9 which is near identical to a Shield. Cargo shorts have 2 advantages. 1-The pocket opening is cut so it works when drawing the pistol. Compare to standard jeans which are nearly impossible. 2-The flap for the lower pocket really hides the bit of bulge formed by the gun. Also, as SWSIG says, dockers work pretty well. The pocket opening is cut right, and the pleated front also helps hide the bulge.

I don't own a Shield, but could see people having the opinion that it's too heavy for pocket carry. I prefer my pocket handguns to really be no more than around 1lb and a fully loaded Shield is going to be about 1/2 lb or so over that limit. I usually pocket carry an airweight S&W 642 and find the 640(about the same weight as the Shield) too weighty for my pocket carry preferences.

I've read quite a few folks here state definitely that the Shield is too large/heavy for pocket carry, but I disagree. I've toted mine many times (in a legally-mandated pocket holster), wearing cargo shorts, or loose jeans, with no discomfort or unacceptable printing whatsoever.
(of course, I wouldn't try it wearing tight jeans like I strutted around in way back in high school, LOL!! )

"I can see that it would be too heavy for an ankle holster....."
I often ankle-carry a Shield 9mm.
When it comes to the CCW mode of any size/weight pistol the question is never "Can it be done?" Of course it "can" be done. The question is always, "Do you seriously want to make it happen?" If "Yes", then you work to make it happen.
