45 Shield Mags
Took one of my mags apart to clean it and now it won't go back together. What a crummy set up.

The only magazine I've ever had real difficulty reassembling was a Glock 19 mag. It was the first Glock I'd ever bought, years ago (but not my first semi) and I just could not get it reassembled. Finally, after a couple of hours swearing and chasing the spring, I took it to my LGS and they put it back together in about 7 seconds. I haven't liked Glocks since.

Why is it a "crummy setup?"
Granted, the followers were defective on mine and that kind of sucked, but I was able to replace them for free and reassemble both of my magazines in just a few minutes — and they performed great at the range. What exactly are you having trouble with?

The base plate tabs won't go into position no matter what I do. I watched the video and that didn't help.

I must be old fashioned or out of the loop or something, because in a half-century of shooting, I've never taken a magazine of any kind apart to clean it. I've never had a magazine fail because it was dirty, either.

Mine disassembled and reassembled with no problem. You must be doing it wrong, or overlooking something.

My vote goes to "doing it wrong".

It's always the persons fault and never the design. You people must all be liberals. I think I'm done with this site.

It's unfortunate that you've had a bad experience here. The Forum generally is an excellent place to learn stuff, but some of the responses to your post have been unusually unhelpful. That's not the norm for the Forum, and I can understand why you're unhappy.
Regarding the 7-rounder reassembly problem, I've found a simple way to deal with the protruding tabs that does not involve either disassembling and starting over, or manipulating the floorplate catch through the floorplate hole. Lay the magazine on its side. Grip the magazine firmly. Take a flat bottomed punch or a flat blade screwdriver, push the top of the tab as far to the back edge of the magazine as you can, and let it go. The tab will snap forward fairly violently, and will disappear down into the floorplate so fast you can't see it happen. It sometimes takes more than one attempt, but it works for me every time.
As to those who have never had a problem with protruding tabs when reassembling your 7-rounders, I am humbled and awed by your superiority!

I already did what you said and it works fine. Thanks for the help. I to am awed by the superiority. I guess I didn't learn much in the last 68 years.

You're welcome. Like you, I struggled mightily with my 7-rounders trying to get those tabs into the floorplate. I discovered the solution by accident while pushing on them to get them lined up just right with their holes. No matter what angle I tried, it didn't work. I kept pushing them farther and farther back, my punch slipped, and "SNAP!", they were back in the floorplate. I'd like to claim I figured it out using brilliant mechanical logic, but in reality it was pure happenstance. I have three 7-rounders, and I have opened them up at least twice each, so I've gotten some practice. Only once have I had the good fortune of having the tabs slip back into place while sliding on the floorplate. Anyone who claims they've never had the tabs stick out after reassembly needs only to wait, because it WILL happen.
In any case, it was all worth the struggle, because my Shield .45 is a great pistol!

My Shield 45 is my most accurate S&W. It out shoots my 645 by a little and my 4013TSW and 411 by a bunch. Its a winner.
