Default Value of M&P .357Sig

I'm thinking about selling my full size M&P .357Sig. I just never use it, as I've only fired about fifty rounds out of it since new. Has two mags, factory case, etc. What's a good price to put on it? I've read a few posts that suggest the actual ones marked .357 on the slide may be worth a little more.

I'm no expert but just off the cuff I would say that the .357sig would probably bring a bit more than average used M&P prices but the smaller pool of buyers would require patience. Many who wanted the .357sig caliber just bought the barrel and put it in their .40 while others (like me) want the whole gun. I have a compact version and just bought another for my Dad. It's a LNIB .357c marked as such with original box and a S&W .40 cal barrel included. $425 and I thought that was a very good price.

I'm fortunate that I hand load so the ammo costs no more than other stuff to load but I know the shelf prices can be high...that pushes some folks away. Watch the auction sites to get an idea of what things are actually selling for. Good luck.

For someone that wants a 357SIG and dislikes the 40S&W cartridge, like myself, a slight premium over the cost of a used 40 would not be unusual.

After all it saves the penalty cost of buying a 40 pistol with a second barrel.

I burn through lots of 357SIG ammunition myself. It has become one of my favorite cartridges in firearms from all manufacturers.

When ammunition is bought by the case, 357SIG is only about $1 or even less of a cost increase over 40S&W. As more and more agencies leave the 40S&W (returning to the 9MM) this difference will close up even further.

As lhump1961 points out, hand loading makes the 357SIG as economical as 38 Special, 9MM or most any other .355-.358 caliber cartridge

Didn't know that a 357 SIG MP5 existed. 357 SMG would be awesome! Wouldn't want such a powerful round in a standard blowback SMG, locked breech or roller delayed would be the only way to go.

If you go with the .357sig you will love the round. Bit of a blast but excellent ballistics and it groups well from my compacts.

Lot to like with these little blasters.
Lucked out and scored a NIB one from Summit Gunbroker a while back.

Tried a .40 barrel in it . Once. Back to 357.

I would pay $450 for a used one in perfect condition in a heartbeat. Been looking for one, actually.

Exactly right. It will be all about finding the right buyer... ... in which case, you should be able to beat current used M&P40 and M&P9 prices. Unfortunately, all plastic gun pricing is down right now with used taking an especially bad hit. Please don't ask me how I know that so well.

I went the cheap way out! But then I got a little reluctant after reading a thread here on the forum dissing the "357 Sig barrel in an M&P40" approach. Because I am downsizing the whole plastic portion of my gun collection, I might be better off selling the 357 Sig barrel and .40 pistol separately.

Interesting. I was led to believe that the .357 SIG and .40 S&W models were identical, except for the barrel (and markings.) Am I wrong?

S&W isn't selling new .357 SIG models, so for those interested, that may drive the price up a bit.

This is probably the most recent forum thread on the topic, but there have been others. It did get me to pause and think about whether it was such a good idea or not. The truth is that I just don't know... so maybe I'm better off waiting to use all that 357 Sig ammo I bought in a gun that was specifically designed for it.

I think I've decided to list mine somewhere around $525-550 and see how it does.

Why not? You never know. Just gotta find the right buyer... someone specifically looking for that gun... and you've got it made.

I still think the M2.0 thing and low (and still dropping) plastic prices in general aren't going to make it easy, but you won't know for sure until you try.

Good luck!

You can always go down. On the other hand, earlier this year, you could get a M&P40 for $379 on Buds and a factory .357 barrel for $84 on Midway. Then there are the Police trade 40's that were going for $299 earlier on. Its a niche caliber and like the guy above said, you just have to find the guy thats looking for one.

I've got an M&P40 I bought for like $450 new. Then added both .357 and 9mm storm lake conversion barrels. What gets shot the most? 9mm. The least - .357 Sig. Ammo prices put that caliber in a distinct genre.
