The 15 rounder in the compact M&P does fit the box.
When CCP Division first came out, many of us thought they just measured a G19 for the box.

Okay, thanks, so maybe that is the reason for its growth. But it sure is disappointing to me, and I'd imagine others. I was looking forward to getting a 2.0 M&P Compact that was as compact as the 1.0. This 4" barrel gun will not work for me. And even if it did, since I don't shoot IDPA, I'd just get the full size 2.0 since they're so close in specs anyway. Hopefully, they'll come out with a true compact 2.0 model down the road, instead of just a G19 imitator.

I'm disappointed too, was hoping for an upgrade to the original compact line, as I like the size, ergos of the 9C very much.

When they first came out people cried it was too small and should have been G19 size. I don't shoot IDPA either but the original was too small. Grip was too short and adding the pinky extension made it the same length as my G19 which then made no sense to buy. I certainly wasn't disappointed it was just not for me.

This size gun is a huge seller for Glock, Sig, CZ, etc. so it is no surprise S&W is going to make one. Like all other gun manufacturers S&W wants police contracts and this size gun helps them compete in that market. Some police departments issue this size gun but not anything as small as the current 12 round compact.
I would bet this is going to be an additional size option, not a replacement for the current 12 round compact which everyone else would call a subcompact. Those wanting a smaller 2.0 that size probably just need to wait.
I have a Gen4 Glock 19 I do not shoot particularly well. The blocky grip does not fit my hand well among other things. I am looking at other pistols that size and this gun is now on my short list.
I like having the option of carrying a gun this size even though I almost always end up carrying a single stack 9 instead. It is not a big difference but .5 inch shorter grip does help. As long as the grip is big enough for all my fingers anything larger is a waste IMO. If I want more capacity I can always use the 17 round magazines, S&W even includes a couple of adapters for a smooth grip.

From the pic's posted, they don't even brand this one as a "C", do they?

Do any of you know if the rebate will cover the 2.0 compact? Time is running out.

I hope you're right. I really like my 1.0 40C, so it certainly is not any kind of punishment to keep carrying and shooting it. Super accurate and dependable.

They're already listed on my LGS's website. They said they should receive the first batch late this week or early next week. Brownells has them on their site for pre-order

To me, the Shield is the ideal carry size, but I might have to try one of these!

My brother works for S&W, and he said this is going to be the compact for the 2.0, no 3.5", 12 round in the works.

12 round will be 3 inches I'm sure. The sub compact with a two finger grip.

Too large for me, just like the G19.
Honestly, the Shield 9 is my ideal carry. If I want more rounds, I grab my G26. I won't carry anything much larger than the Baby Glock.

The Shield is already a 3.1" barrel gun, and holds 7 (in the 9mm). It would a pretty wide or tall gun to squeeze in another 5 rounds.

Good to know, I guess. Might have to pick up a 1.0 9C before they're gone, for the wife.

The compact is on the S&W website now at M&P(R)9 M2.0™ Compact | Smith & Wesson . Too bad S&W does not list height since that is the biggest difference compared to the full size model. No free magazines but it lists for $30 less than the full size.

I also found the G19 too big to be a carry gun, at least on a regular basis. But this size makes a lot of sense as a home defense gun that might be carried every once in a while. The shorter grip makes it a little easier to carry. Since I can get all 3 fingers on the grip with this size gun it can use the full size magazines without having my pinky put pressure on the magazine. I have never heard of that causing a failure but it does not seem right to me.

A Shield 9 holds 7 in the (small) mag plus 1 in the chamber for 8 total, and I can get at least part of my little finger on the grip. The 8 round mag gives 9 total in the gun, plus a full grip for all fingers. It's still a pretty small gun for that much full 9mm firepower.

I can't wait. Early Xmas present to myself. My thoughts and full disclosure I'm a newer gun owner.
I've owned my 9c just over a year. Still my only handgun which I chose to be my CCW and serve as a temporary HD gun. I, like a lot of others wanted to like Glocks, but don't. I don't feel the need to carry a second magazine in my daily life (I'm aware mag failure is a reason too), but also wanted more than 6+1 or 8+1. Everyone has their preference.
When I was originally making my decision the 12+1 checked all my boxes but one. I wanted just a few more rounds in the mag. Knowing what I know now vs the first time around I probrably could have and will at some point have a FS M&P as a CCW option. I'm a little above average size guy which makes the 9c disappear and I have larger than average hands, but the gun fits me perfectly. Maybe it was beginner ignorance on grip, etc who knows, but a year into it and the 9c feels like it was made with me in mind.
The new compact will check all my boxes for my CCW. Perfect in the middle of 9c 1.0 and a FS (assuming height is in between as well).
Since it's the updated platform seems like a no brainer for people that love the 1.0 version.

I just took a screenshot off the link provided from y'all to compare differences. Overall lengths on the Compact and Regular 2.0 only make for .1 of a difference.
I'm personally not impressed with that at all. Some of you could argue .1 could make difference. I don't think it's worth losing 2 rounds over in the facet of overall length.
As stated by some already, overall height is not listed. Hopefully that difference is more substantial as the grip is the hardest for most people to conceal.
I hate to use Glock as an example, but the differences between the 19 and 17 are substantial in reference to numbers comparing overall lengths and heights. I've opted to carry the 17 over the 19 because I don't notice the difference when carrying and concealing. I feel the same will be for me between the M&P 2.0's

But it's hardly "in the middle". It's grown to almost the same specs as the FS, at least in length. And probably pretty close in height.
I get what their goal is with making it a G19 imitator. But just wish they had not abandoned their Compact customers.

I cant see a fit for me
I love my Shield and M&P40C
Both CCW in IWB, well for me
With the mag extension, I get 12 +1........ 13 in a compact in 40 is PLENTY for me
If I were a LEO, and the 2.0 was a choice, or if I HAD to OC, (Which I dont) it would make sense.
They needed a new name for this line (its not really a compact)
Just like a P229 isnt really a compact for the P226

No "C" designation on the slide in their pictures, either. I wonder if the production ones will have that or not?

The good news is that as soon as Cabelas get these in stock the compact 1.0 might go on sale. $100 discount sounds good to me.

Looked at our local store last night. 9C not on sale yet. They had a 40C with a green crimson trace on it on sale, though. $569.

I should have clarified better. In the middle of capacity and height. I now see it is 5" in height. The M&P 9c (1.0) is 4.3" and the FS M&P 2.0 is 5.5".
Barrel length being 4" is a bonus to accuracy (hopefully). At .7" taller than the 9c 1.0 and .5" shorter than the M&P FS 9 2.0 it's a winner for me.
Feels irrelevant to mention but for aesthetics I hate the way the 9c looks with a FS magazine and the 2.0 compact seems to fix that for me.
With the Shield so popular, and the 2.0 Compact I'm leaning toward they will bring something out (maybe not as quick as we all would like) that speaks to people looking for a true "compact" or double stack "subcompact" depending on what perspectives are in the terminology.
Either way I'll never give up my 1.0. And if the sales are right I won't beable to stop myself from purchasing another.

I got a chance to shoot about 100 rounds through a LE sample today. It is a very nice shootable platform. I liked it enough to place an order for one, and I don't like plastic weapons.

This is the gun I have been waiting for since the introduction of the M&P series. I will probably get one in both 9& 40. I have always prefered G19 sized guns for carry. These will be great!!

Many outlets are taking orders already especially LE dealers, the LE pistols will come with 3 magazines.

Just found out that my LGS is having a S&W days monday and tuesday and the S&W rep will be bringing a generous supply of 2.0 compacts for people to try and buy. He will also have the 5 inch 9mm in FDE which ive had my eye on. They are going to be offering "big discounts" so depending on what that might be, i might be coming home with a M 2.0 in some form on tuesday.
I wonder why they only offer a 5 inch FDE, or 5 inch in any variety, in only 9mm. That's ok though.

Yeah, I get 10+1 in my Shield (MagGuts). Not sure the 5 extra rounds is worth the extra size.

I noticed also, why is the 4.25" & the 5" $100 cheaper then the compact?

It's just the usual cashing (literally) in on being able to ask a higher price for a desirable new model. The retail price of the Compact is actually $30 cheaper than the 5" and 4.25" guns.
At some point in the future the Compact will become much cheaper. Or at least somewhat cheaper.

This caught my attention,as I was G19 centric for quite a few years. But,I havn't seen anything official from S&W yet. I am currently carrying a 45 Shield as my daily CCW while the wife carries the Shield 9.
I am always having to confront poachers, mostly during the nighttime hours on this 1000 acre farm. (Not mine,I just protect the equipment.)
Having shot a full size M2.0 and falling in love with it I will probably be going for that, since I have several other pistols mostly for CCW. I usually have two and sometimes three of these miscreants to deal with,so round count becomes important. Nice looking pistol and the right size for most folks, but think the FS would serve me better in the role it's needed for.

Not much of a pre-order. Looks like that was an express order. I would really like to hear a review of what you think when you have time to take them to the range.

$485 at Gallery of Guns. I almost clicked to buy it but kinda don’t want to be a beta tester.
