I definitely won't complain about how short the pre-order was. I've been waiting/hoping S&W would release this gun for years, ever since I bought my first 9c.

I have 4 M&P's already, early versions of the 9FS and 9c and recent versions of the 9FS and 9c (not M2.0). The earlier versions both have Apex triggers but I felt the newer triggers are so much better they don't need the Apex upgrades.

I love my M&P's but I decided I wasn't going to spend any more money on S&W until they released a Glock 19 sized version. For me the 9c is too small for a primary carry gun and, while I don't mind carrying the 9FS, I really wanted something in the Glock 19 "sweet spot" w/o having to buy one. Nothing against Glock, they're great guns, I just have different tastes.

I'll post a review as soon as I get them to the range. I'm also curious to see if they'll qualify for the current rebates.

The S&W web site states qualifying MP purchase. I asked Customer service this very question regarding the 2.0 Compact and was told no it would not as the release date was after the rebate period.

I spoke to the LE rep who told me yes it does. I guess we won't know till somebody submits for it.

Mine should be in on Friday so hopefully can post results soon after.

So, the new 2.0 Compact is less compact than the old compact?? Seems allot closer to the old full sized model.
I think I'm seeing the kings backside here...

No. It's a glock 19 sized pistol. About a half inch shorter height and a quarter inch shorter barrel than the 2.0 full size.

But when you buy with them they give you a whole new gun if you have issues instead of sending it to Smith

The old "compact" was never a compact, it was a mislabeled subcompact. The M2.0 Compact is the gun they should have made way back in 2005.

I just printed out a full-scale picture of the 9c 2.0 and compared it to my 9fs 1.0. Looks like the slide is identical. Just realized the c 2.0 has no beavertail.

sadly none of the 2.0 has beaver tail, must confess had no interest of getting the 2.0 but I really like the new compact.

The 9c is my EDC. Grip size with the flat baseplate mag is almost identical to the G26, yet holds two more rounds. The slide is just a tad bit longer than the G26. I would agree the old compact is really a sub compact. That said I love mine. I have a G19 but my 9c is what I grab everyday. It is an almost perfect balance of size and capacity. I even think the trigger is pretty decent, just needs a more tactile reset. Will probably put an Apex kit in soon. Carry it comfortably all day in a Clinger no print wonder.

I do plan on buying the new compact though.

That is my concern too. I can't shoot a Glock without a grip force adapter or I get slide bite. That is part of what drove me to the M&P in the first place and what has kept me from buying a M2.0. If the compact bites me, which I am not anticipating, I will just make a beavertail with acraglass.

I have a couple 9C's and like them as well, but even with the extension the grip is shoot short for my hand. I prefer having a full grip. I won't be getting rid of my 9C's but have already pre-ordered an LEO edition of the M2.0 Compact.

Mine came in today but too late to shoot it. I will over the weekend. Initial impressions are that I am going to like this. Comparing it to my current carry 3913, it is just a little longer, almost the same height, and just a little bit thicker in the grip, but almost the same width in the slide with the safety levers on the 3913. Trigger pull is much better than either my first MP40, or the updated Pre-2.0 we are carrying now. It even fits in my 3913 holster although it is a bit tight.

That may be, but it's still kind of stupid of them to abandon those of us that find the original compact's to be the perfect size gun. Personally, I consider the Shield's to be sub-combact, and the 1.0 C to be a compact, but I'm talking real world use, not some standard set by ITPA (or whomever).

The 2.0 C is so close to a 2.0 FS (only .1" shorter), that anyone not shooting in competitions in the compact class might as well just get the FS, it would seem like.

Between classes this weekend I spent some time with the new Compact. I shot just over 200 rounds of cheap Winchester white box. My initial impression were confirmed. Not a single bobble, and unlike my co-workers full size 2.0, I had no ejection issues at all. Spent cases ejected as they should. I am finding that the Compact is noticeably more accurate than my 40 full size in slow fire work. I was getting better groups at a full 25 yards than I can get at 15 with the 40. Rapid fire is much easier to shoot quickly.

As to the size difference, yes it is not that much smaller than a full size, and is not that much bigger than a 3913. It is a size that just feels right in the hand though. I have passed it around at work and even the die hard Glock guy likes how it feels.

So far I am impressed, and did I mention that I don't really like striker fired plastic pistols?

The 2.0C is also a half inch shorter in height while only sacrificing two rounds. To people like me, that half inch makes a huge difference. It carries better, points better, balances better and shoots faster than the full size. Which is why my 45 2.0 stays in the night stand.

They've already got the 12rd and 10rd 40 cal mags for the 1.0 Compacts in their stocking system, it wouldn't cost much to make a 4 inch 2.0 model with a 9c/40c length grip. Manufacturing another set of frame molds is expensive, but they'd only have to do it once and they'd placate most of the "c" crowd because short barrel length isn't as important as short butt length for most CCW carry methods.

S&W already has a gajillion SKUs, so any Smith Corp lurkers feel free to steal my idea ... please.

I posted earlier as TejasCruzer because I couldn't locate my original login info. I finally picked up my two M&P 2.0 Compacts this morning. They came in on Friday but I couldn't make it over to the gun shop until today.

More details to come once I get to the range this weekend, but right out of the box they are pretty sweet. The trigger take up is pretty gritty but that's no surprise and should get smoother with use. Compared to my full size M&P 1.0's the trigger break feels lighter but the reset is about the same as the more recent M&P 1.0's. All in all I don't think they need an Apex upgrade, YMMV.

Size wise the closest thing I have in comparison is a Walther PPQ M1. I didn't take exact measurements but to my eye the M&P 2.0 Compact is about 1/16"-1/8" shorter in length and about 1/2" shorter in height. Width? I don't care so didn't bother to check. Weight? Again, I don't care and didn't check.

Ergonomics wise the 2.0 feels almost as good as the PPQ and is a huge improvement over the 1.0 M&P (though I have zero complaints about the 1.0). However, the grip texture may be a little too abrasive for my delicate hands, time will tell after I carry it for a while. I can see I'll be going through undershirts left and right but I guess that's better than skin.

For anyone who's interested, I was unable to submit the M&P Rebate online. An error pops up stating they were unable to locate the serial numbers in their database but that I could try mailing the rebate in. The small print on the mail-in rebate form lists every M&P semi-auto model except the 2.0 Compact so it may not qualify after all. I'll mail them in and see what happens.

For the M&P 1.0 Compact fans out there, I have two and I love them but will probably be selling them. The 2.0 Compact is everything the 1.0 Compact should have been and more. Imagine your 1.0 Compact with that useless pinky mag extension completely filled in and holding 3 extra rounds.

And too long and tall to carry, at least the way I carry. No thanks.

Hope you enjoy yours, though.

Same...hoping the 1/4" of length in the grip makes a difference. This would be a Glock-killer for me.
