Default M&P 2.0 Compact Announcement

Hi all. Long time lurker, first time poster.

I saw this on Facebook just a few minutes ago and figured y'all might enjoy this as much as I will. From what I read on two different posts, an official announcement will be made Monday.

I am STOKED as my absolute perfect all around size pistol is the G19 (but I never could warm up to that other pistol manufacturer). 4" barrel, 5" overall height with 14-16 rounds is exactly what fills my needs and wants. I most likely will be a buyer as soon as I can get my mitts on one.

As this is the same size as the G19, I wonder how this would have done if it had been offered to the Bureau when they selected the G19M and G17M

Looks to be the right size.

I hope it comes with three magazines (doubtful).

This might be worth a look.

Interesting possibilities here. Staying tuned.

I did notice the same pic over on a board for that other pistol manufacturer.

Glock more than likely did what they (almost) always do and underbid everyone else

Hmmm. Interesting. Wishing they would have nipped another 1/2"-3/4" off the barrel. Can't please everyone. I happen to like our two current M&P Compacts in 9, especially when they have the added extended grip area added to the magazine, which all of ours do.

Glad to see some of the other improvements.

The last M&P compact I owned only had twelve round magazines. Nice to see they went with fifteen rounds on this one. Not sure I really need one but will definitely lay my hands on one and check it out if I get a chance.

Hoping the magazines fit in the first gen compact.

Hmmm. Interesting. Recently bought a Gen 4 model 23. Very nice pistola. Still, I carry my M&P 40c more often. So, for me, this comes a little late. Not sure that there is room in the inn for this one.

If the the 2.0's used the same safety as the Shield's use, I might reconsider. I don't like the too easily moved "bat wings" used on the current M&P's.

Good point, and I agree. That big floppy "bat wing" lever is a real loser (unless maybe they've tightened it up, but the pessimist in me is betting they glossed right over that). It would've helped to at least have shaved even a tiny bit of material off the thing,as well.
The Shield safety lever is very unobtrusive, yet still very functional. It would've been a big improvement here, IMO.
But, overall, I think this new compact version is a winner.

I was curious when they were going to come out with compact 2.0...thanks for posting!

I do like the size of my current compact though, which is in between the sizes of the G19 and 26. But I guess S&W wanted to compete more directly with Glock on the size of the 19.

Took a quick spin on S&W's website, didn't see the compact 2.0 on it. Hopefully soon

So 7.3 length compared to the 7.4 FS length and a slightly shorter grip = compact? okay

I hear the same thing about the new Glock but wasn't impressed after shooting one. I could purchase it with my LEO discount but I'll wait to see what else is released.
There's already the M&P C versions which I'd consider compact before I would this new 2.0 compact.

The "old compact" was really a subcompact. There never was a true compact (like the G19) except for the .45 ACP Compact, which is basically the size of this new unit.

Looks like everyone that wanted a M&P sized midway between the original 9FS and 9C can now own one. The heads on the Glock fanboys should start spinning.

I agree, it's too large. Lopping 1/4 inch barrel length from the full size is meaningless. I can't believe they even bother. I guess we will wait a bit to get official numbers but, if the above is correct, they only shortened the overall pistol by 1/10 inch. My M&Pc 1.0 is a lot easier for me to conceal on my hip than my wife's G19 so I guess I am one who doesn't think the G19 is so wonderful size wise.

Given the size, you have to wonder if they'll be coming out with a subcompact to match up with what almost everyone else is doing.

Unless they figure there isnt a market for one and jumping all the way down to a shield is where they think people will buy.

Id vote for a double stack sub compact that competes with everyone else like springfield, etc.

But this is eactly what Sig, Glock, springfield, and almost everyone else does. They go 5, 4, 3(3.3 for 45) and then they drop down to single stack.

For me, the FS gun is just too limiting on not just the larger size, but the weight too when carrying concealed. Let me have a range gun, that I can lighten and shorten for occasional carry. Both my Shields are great EDC, but out in the woods hunting, plinking, carrying in the car are all more flexible and lend themselves to a bigger gun. Perfect size in my world

I love my M&P 40 Compact with its 3.5" barrel and 10+1 capacity. It has been the perfect carry pistol for me for the last 2 1/2 years. Unfortunately, it developed some light strike problems at 8500 rounds, and is currently back at S&W for repair. If they can't get it to function the way it has in the past, I'll have to look elsewhere for a replacement, because the 2.0 Compact is simply too large for me to carry. Let's hope S&W will eventually produce a 3.5" short-grip 10+1 .40 cal. version.

The new pistol allows sales in states like Colorado where 15 round magazines are the largest allowed. The reduction in overall size is not significant.

Still amazes me that Colorado of all places has restrictions like that.

California transplants are ruining everything they touch. Hell, most of the big cities in Texas are becoming very liberal.

My full size 2.0 came with fifteen round magazines from the factory. I didn't even know S&W offered them. I thought it would either be ten rounds or seventeen. I was surprised to see that offer ten, fifteen, or seventeen round magazines.

It looks good. I have the first MP9C and love it. Idk if it would be worth the upgrade. Thanks for posting though, I love the M&P line of firearms.

I've got the 9c and 45c. Like the size and feel of the 45c and carry it most of the time. With the new 9c fitting right between the old 9c and the 9fs, and being the same size of the 45c, I might just have to add one to my M&P collection.

A little closer look in a vid from Brownell's.

Spoiler alert: It's the same size as a G19.

Looks good. I have no need for one. Id want a full size since I already have a XD Mod.2 SC .

And even then id want to weigh the full size versus the 5 inch XD Mod.2

I would really consider selling my Gen4 G19 and getting one of these new M2.0 Compacts. I do have a new 5" FDE M2.0 in .40 and a 1.0 40c. Got quite a few goodies for both.

I'm pretty sure I'll be able to use the "New" M2.0 compact magazines on the older 1.0 compacts. I could see my 40c go from a 10 round mag to a 13 round mag. I do use the full size 15 round magazines when I CCW my 40c from time to time.

Nice Job S&W!

I agree with others, not really a compact anymore. Might as well just buy the FS 2.0. I EDC the 40C and would not be able to carry the way I do if it were any wider or longer, which this gun seems to be both of.

I'm sure it's a fine pistol, but it's no longer a compact, IMO.

I like it. I have never warmed up to the stubby grip compacts. Always thought the Glock 19/23 was about the perfect size. I was about to get a new one in Generation 5 but now I think I'll hold off to check out the new M&P.

Curious why you would pick this one over the full size 2.0? They seem to be almost identical, from the specs we've seen so far.

Not sure if that was in answer to my question above, but if so, doesn't the full size 2.0 also fit that division?

Because it feels much better in my hand, with 99% of the performance and excellent capacity.

No. The 4.5" barrel excludes it from the CCP division. Possibly some of the other overall dimensions as well. As silly as it sounds, the CCP class was pretty much set up for the Glock 19. The 19 is pretty much the largest handgun that would qualify for that division.

No offense, but how would you know that, since they have not actually hit the shelves yet?

Barrel length is 4.25" on the FS 2.0.

I wish. Gun with magazine must fit in "box" specified. The full size M&P will not go in with magazine inserted.
The 15 rounder in the compact M&P does fit the box.

When CCP Division first came out, many of us thought they just measured a G19 for the box.

I'm talking about that specific size of pistol.
