Default Help! M&P Shield Slide Stuck on One Rail

Like an idiot, while I was on the phone and cleaning my gun, I did not pay attention to if the slide of my M&P Shield 9mm was level when reassembling.. As a result, the slide engaged the rail on the left side, but not the right. Please see the attached pictures, these should better show my problem than what I can explain... When I reattached the slide, I had no resistance until it was about all the way on. At which point I stopped to see what was wrong. Bottom line, I can not move the slide forward, but it appears (with force) it may move more backward. I just don't want to make the situation any worse than it is.. I know I look stupid as heck, but I surely would appreciate any advice / assistance! How can I remove the slide to properly reassemble?

Things I've tried (but no improvement):

Gently rocking the slide side to side while pushing forward
Doing that ^ while holding the trigger

I don't have a definitive answer for you but will give you a bump up.

In my mind I was thinking to flip the release lock back up and attempt to draw back the slide and proceed with a normal removal method of taking the slide back off but I don't know if that is going to solve the problem.

Doesn't seem like you'll do much damage at this point. Pull it back and try to take it down and see if it slides off. These guns are tougher that you think.
No telling how many times I've racked the slide on a Glock and the RSA would push out the front of the slide because I didn't seat it properly.

Just pull on the trigger and release the slide again. I've done that before.

yeah, if the sear has engaged you should just have to pull the trigger and then you may have to give the slide a whack with the heel of your palm if its really jammed up. you may also have to keep the the trigger pulled while you strike the back of the slide depending on how well the striker is engaged at this point.

Thanks everyone for posts.. A rubber mallet did the job. After checking to make sure it wasn't hung up, a little harder tap from the rubber mallet took the slide off and the pistol is working well! At first I used a normal hammer but was nervous I may do damage metal on metal so I tapped too lightly.
