Default Crack in Pro Series slide?

Hello,
After a day at the range, I field-stripped my M&P 9 Pro Series for cleaning; I found what I believe is a crack on the underside of the slide. It begins about 1/16" forward of the firing pin block, and continues from the rear of the firing pin block to the rear of the slide. I do not remember ever seeing this "line" before; I would to hear your opinions on this. Did this come from the factory this way, and I just never noticed? What could cause a crack here, in a non-stressed area of the slide? I would appreciate all your thoughts on this.

Looks more like a small ledge left from machining when new. Picture doesn't provide all angles to see for sure.

Just remove the Slide Back Plate and take a gander. You'll be able to see if that's a line in the surface or if it's a crack.

Did anyone install rear sights or remove them at one time?
Hopefully it is not what it appears to be, generally a crack will stop once it gets to a radius that large. Perhaps it is as mentioned, a milling ridge left behind

I would imagine it's something left behind from the manufacturing of that particular slide. I don't think that a crack would continue on through that hole nor would it be perfectly straight. I think you're good!

Question

Your pictures do worry me, since its looks like a Ledge or a Crack? Just checked my NIB 2.0 and it does have a very light "Scratch" behind the firing pin block where the finish was lightly scraped from just racking slide a dozen times.

Good observations. Doubt it's a crack.

Am now thinking its not a Crack, since just now checked my NIB Shield and it has no scratch behind the firing pin block.

However about 3/4" in front of the block is a area what seems to like like a Crack running sideways from wall to wall, up on close examination it is a machining mark which is about 2/3" long and actually is a banana shaped indention which is just higher in front thus looking like a sideways straight Crack but the area smoothens out in front of block.

So i guess just machining marks!

I doubt that it's a crack. Looks like a machining mark.

Definitely not a crack. First of all, it's too straight. If it were a crack, no way it would be that perfect. Secondly, they all have it:

This is a .45 and a .40S&W slide side by side. You can see the line on both of them. They are definitely not cracked.

Default Many thanks!

Thanks for all the great replies; special thanks to Rastoff for the pics! You lifted a great weight off my mind. My 5" Pro Series is one of my favorite shooters, and has the best factory trigger I have ever felt on an M&P (even better than my recently acquired 4.2" 2.0). I hated the thought of having to send it back to the factory for repair, and potentially not being able to shoot it for several months. Again, thanks!
