Brand new shield that I thought needs truglow TFX sights.
Removed rear sight and in last tap the sight flew out - which I was expecting. However the spring is all torn up and I did not see nor have found the striker spring plate. I think it was not factory installed and the spring slide into the set screw slot and as I was drifting it out, the rear sight mangled and ripped the spring.

Why don't you call up CS and explain to them what happened and your take on the problem and see if they'll send you replacement parts. I would imagine they would do so without a fuss, it's not like those parts are expensive.
Truglo huh? Not sure why people like that poop. Should never decrease sight radius.
That's why you push it out right to left. Contact S&W and tell them you tapped the sight out and the spring is messed up and you can't find the upper plunger. Good luck.
Every instructional video from aftermarket parts gunsmiths (e. g., Apex, 10-8, Heine) I have viewed says to remove the rear sight from the left to the right, with barrel oriented away from you. I understand the sight is originally inserted from the right.
I have removed a couple of dozen rear sights following these instructions with no problems.

I went from left to right. Pushing the sight to exit on the side of the ejection port/extractor.
But I think you all may have missed my point. There was not a plate to capture the spring under the sight so the sight dragged across the spring and damaged it.
I will give smith a call this week. Just curious how common it is for them to leave out a part and kinda makes you (or at least me) wonder
