First Time Carrying 45 Shield
I bought a new M&P 45 Shield last week. I already had a holster, the kydex I had made for a Walther PPS fit the Shield perfectly. Yesterday I verified the Ameriglo I Dot sights and had enough rounds to feel confident.
I started gearing up for it's maiden voyage. I began to appreciate the safety right off. I used it to lock the trigger while loading the chamber, then while holstering. At that point, I set the safety back off, it had already done it's job.
It was impossible to see the Shield beneath my untucked polo shirt, and I didn't really notice it was there. This gun hides really well.
I know many of you seriously dislike the safety, but holstering is the most dangerous operation we perform. And, although extremely rare, slam fires have occurred. Having one more safety net for those operations are not a bad thing. I did; however, disable the safety once the weapon was holstered. I'm left handed, and a right handed safety is not the best thing for me. A spare mag brings me up to a total 15 rounds, but I won't be defending the Alamo.
This gun is just about perfect for concealed carry. For a 3" barrel .45, it's incredibly soft shooting. And, it's as accurate in my hands as a much larger Glock 30, or even a Glock 19.
I've already got a spare for rotation. I just bought a M&P 9 Shield PC. This time I don't have to get new sights, it's a PC model.

That's awesome! I love the safety on the Shield 45; it's got a perfect level of resistance with an audible snap—it's much better than the 1911 style safety on my mid-size M&P 45. Glad you like it. I do wish it was reversible however, this is a design mistake on the Shield in my opinion.
With regard to shooting, I've been working on getting away from the whole right-handed vs. left-handed stigma; in fact, we adopted a new discipline where we've been forcing ourselves to practice with both hands at the range for about a year, and I'm almost as accurate with either hand now.

I require a safety on all pistols, the only exception is the LCP pocket pistol. I also require an external hammer. I seldom use either, but I like knowing both are there. Your logic is good, if I used holsters I would use the safety as you do.

The Rarity of having the gun go off while holstering is Slim enough that I will gladly take the chance. Especially considering I do not appendix carry, or even carry inside the waistband at all.

Yes, I've often used the safety for that added insurance for holstering, but then found that I forgot to take the saety off afterwards
Thus, I perfer a non-safety gun, or don't use them at all.

I carry my 45 Shield on a daily basis, after I sanded the grip down to human love handle tolerances of course.

I stated they were different operations.
1. Chamber a round.
2. Top off the magazine.
3. Holster the weapon.

Please please tell me which Blackhawk Serpa holster fits the Walter PPS.
I checked the BH website and it only lists the Walther P99.

I had a Blackhawk BH410501BK-L for my left handed Glock 26. Actually, it's only left handed when I carry it.
When I tried the Walther PPS and M&P Shield, they fit perfect.
Most of the characters are for the color and style. The last two numbers (01) are the size, and the last letter (-L) is for Left (Size 01-L). Your size is likely 01-R, for right hand. If you buy it on line, it will have the long part number.
Here's the right handed holster on Amazon:

Glad you like the your Shield .45. I carry mine daily without a safety and have not had an issue. Enjoy your EDC.

New holster and belt from Black Arch Holsters.
.45 ACP Ammo from Double Tap,
make the PC .45 shine as a carry gun.
I'll add some brown metal clips to the holster.
Might also buy a Black Arch ADM "ACE-Dri-Matrix" IWB holster in black to match my HBE belt.
ACE Dri-Matrix™ (ADM) - Black Arch Holsters
They currently don't have their new Kydex single mag carrier:
Kydex Vertical Mag Carrier - Black Arch Holsters
To fit the .45 Shields, so I use a SHTF GEAR single.
