IWB Shield holster that leaves safety exposed?
Just got CCW. On the first holster I bought, the kydex covers the safety. I'm carrying cocked & locked and I'd like to be able to manipulate the safety pre-draw. Can anyone recommend another IWB kydex holster (or hybrid) that allows this by leaving the safety uncovered?

I think you might want to reconsider your idea of manipulating the safety in the holster. Manual of arms that I know all talk of releasing the safety only after out of holster and on the way to the target.

Not from experience yet but I'd think it would be smoother and more consistent to manipulate the safety during the draw motion vs while it is in the holster up against the body/clothing/etc

I agree with the above posters that it's probably not a good idea to be manipulating the safety in the holster, but if you google "minimalist kydex holster" or "kydex holster without sweat guard" or some such, you'll find plenty of what you're looking for.

I'd add if needed that my bro in law picked up a holster from this company (example linked) for his new Shield. But he does not use a safety so cant comment what access to the safety would be like while holstered.

The DeSantis Slim Tuk allows me to holster my Shield with the safety on and then flip it off. I've carried my Shield everyday for the past 5 months and it works fine. It allows sweat to get directly on the rear part of the slide, but that's what happens when the slide's exposed.
If it doesn't work out for you, at least it's cheap.
Here's a couple places that have customer reviews.

You are getting some good advice here. Fooling around with the thumb safety on a holstered weapon is asking for trouble.

I don't know, but I don't see where flipping the safety off on a holstered gun and then drawing it is any different from drawing a NTS gun from a holster.

Leave it off. It's a bad idea to have one on a self defense firearm anyways. Better yet, go in and remove it. I personally, will not put a gun in my collection that has a safety on it. It makes it a paper weight. Might as well throw it at the bad guy.

Thanks guys, I wasn't aware of the protocol. I'll keep the holster I've got and practice disengaging the safety during draw.

i wouldn't carry any striker fired gun without a safety..holstering a gun is high on the cause list of Negligent discharges so i holster my shield with the safety on and then i flip it off after it is safely holstered. To each his own

My only question is: Why are you using the safety?

While I agree that you shouldn't plan on releasing the safety prior to a draw, I would think any kydex holster without a sweat shield would allow you to access the safety while it is holstered. It is the sweat shield that would normally block access to the safety on a shield.

I'm actually liking my blackhawk ARC holster for my shield. I wear it between 2 and 3 o'clock, in the lower position.
Personally I wish it had a sweat shield but this time of year I can start to wear it with a tshirt under and not have problems. I found out yesterday before church that the clip allows one to effectively tuck around the holster. I wore it that way for 6 or 7 hours although with a bit of digging on my leg while sitting.
I'm still looking for a longer term holster for my shield.

If you've got time to mess with a safety then you probably have time to NOT pull it out of the holster at all. If I'm carrying, it's chambered and RTF. Since it's an option of last resort, I want it fire when I pull the trigger. No other time matters.
