Default M&P 2.0C and hard cast

I am picking up my .40 S&W 2.0C on Monday and had a question for you experts. I am NOT doing this as a caliber debate, this is the pistol I have wanted S&W to make for ten years, and I prefer the .40 for my purposes. This is primarily for protection from unruly critters in the Texas hill country.

Is it safe (i.e need to change anything like springs, barrel, etc) to run say Underwood's 200 grain WFNGC hard cast? Or would you have another recommendation? (I do not handload at this time and frankly don't have the time to get into it as I work 65-80 hour weeks.)

I ask specifically about that load as protection when working at the ranch and want something a lot easier to carry than a 6" 686+.

As this model may not have much out there yet for real world experience; have you checked with SW themselves as to what grain recommendations they would make for it?

I haven't yet, but there's plenty of 2.0s out there and I'm sure there's people using cast boolits in them here.

I was looking for more real-world experiences with them because like everyone knows in the Glock world that they say lead is verboten in their fansy-schmansy barrels but plenty of shooters say (and do) otherwise.

Shoot a bunch of kinds see which brand/weight shoots point of aim point of impact.
Guarantee this will narrow the field tremendously. Or buy adjustable target sights and shoot whatever you want.
hardcast/lead is fine just watch for leading as you would in any pistol.
Either way , enjoy

As long as the ammunition meets SAAMI specs, there should be no problem.

I've shot allot of 190'sh gr cast bullet handloads from my 1.0 5" pro. They shoot POA at 40' or so (even with light loads of fast powder.) If your 2.0 has a POI issue, contact Dawson Precision and thy can custom upgrade your (rear, front or both) sights for cheap $.

The Glock issue firing them has to do with the type of barrel they use. Smith doesn’t use that type so u should be good. I love my 2.0 compact

I know it's not the bullet you are using, but Missouri Bullets does not recommend THEIR 200 Gr bullets be used in 40 S&W. I believe though the Lyman cast handbook does have 200gr data. Of course everything I have posted makes this clear as mud.

A lot of uspsa shooters use 200s in .40. If you troll those types of forums, you may find what you need. I've got about 1k coated lead 147s through my 2.0 9mm
