Default hard time disassemble shield 9 and I can't put my rail back on

Hello, guys.

First time posting here.

Today I brought my shield 9mm to the range and shot 50ish rounds.

When I tried to disassemble my firearm I had a hard time taking it apart and now I can see that there is a silver pin sticks out.

Because of that, I was not able to reassemble it.

Do you have that problem often?

This isn't my first time cleaning it and I know how to disassemble and reassemble it.

Please let me know

thanks

Looks like the slide lock spring has to go back into the cut groove it popped out of . Goes into the locking block .

By "rail", do you mean slide?

Welcome to the Forum.

This is not a normal condition. It is a failure issue that is appearing occasionally on the forum recently. Even if you are able to re-seat the spring, I would not trust it to stay seated.

I'd call S&W customer service and ask a free return shipping mailing label to be emailed to to you, and let the factory troubleshoot the issue.
Good luck.

Welcome to the forum, that is somewhat of a common problem and seems to be more so on the 9mm than the 45. S&W needs to redesign that side housing on the block and make that a 'captured' retention on the spring so this does not happen.
They will most certainly take care of it for you though it isn't a difficult fix at all. The pain is the wait to get your gun out and back unfortunately. Chances are if it happened once it will happen again so it would be good to have them make the judgement of the proper repair for you.

If that's your only gun and you can't afford to be without it for 3-6 weeks, you can try popping it back into its slot and put the slide back on, but sometimes this problem is cause by a mis-manufactured locking block and they have to replace it.

My nephew's Shield 9 did that too, he called CS and they sent him a return label. He received it back in 28 days.

I don't know if you're mechanically inclined or not, but I have heard of owners calling CS and them sending them a replacement spring.

Not common, but we have seen it.

Yes, you can fix it yourself, but would be better off sending it back to S&W.

Turn around times range from 14 days to 3 months. Most get them back in 14 days.
