Where are the grey/silver slide 9mm M&Ps coming from?
I was searching for a thread on this, and couldn't find one. I know some people have had their 9mm M&P slides bead-blasted, to get the black finish off, and get that grey look, but I have seen new ones on the shelf in Cabelas, and am wondering if these are store or distributor specials, or what. If they are factory, what part number are they going by?
Most of these come from aftermarket companies that will refinish the slide. I don't know of the company names off the top of my head, but they will do different kinds of finishes on the gun. The only color options I have seen from S&W is the tan colored models.
I'm resurrecting this thread because I just bought a police trade M&P40 with silver slide. It was black, the underside still is, the corners of some of the scallops show black. The color is like the paint on the aluminum J frames. The SKU: 150668 doesn't show up. I'm wondering if it's auto paint or Cerakote. Ser is a DTD9xxx. Any ideas about this gun?

BIG difference in Auto paint vs Cerakote...... and over 80 colors. Expect to pay $40-60. I charge $40 for solids....includes drifting rear sight.
I believe you will be happy with Cerakote. I've done a bunch....both solids and battleworn like this:
