I'm waiting for S&W to make my perfect carry pistol. Take the original M&P 40c, add the new 2.0 frame texture, add 2.0 trigger components and the safety from the Shield and viola! My perfect carry pistol.

(If the Shield's safety is too much to ask for, I'd settle for the other updates sans safety.)

Why would you want the Shield safety? I find it far too small. Easy to miss in a stressful situation.

The Shield safety, at least the one on mine, isn't going to be inadvertently bumped into an unintended position, unlike the under-detented, flappy safeties on the double-stack guns.

How many times have you found the thumb safety flipped off on the compact or full size gun you have now?

My 40c doesn't have a safety, my experience of the FS safety is restricted to a range gun I tried out. It seemed unacceptably prone to unwanted movement compared to my Shield safety, which is why I got the NTS 40c.

Soooooo, a gun with no thumb safety is fine, but one with a thumb safety that might be flipped off accidentally is not?

For the record, I've carried and used my M&P 45 with thumb safety a lot. It's never been inadvertently flipped off.

At the beginning of this year, the state I live in instituted permitless carry and I lost the last excuse I had to not carry, so I started carrying my old P-O-S KelTec P11 and taking it with me to the range and realized that I couldn't shoot it very well. I got the Shield with the TS because I figured I could carry it the ways I carried the P11, sometimes in a holster and sometimes just stuffed in a jacket pocket.

But over time I decided to not pocket carry anymore as a matter of personal policy and I started carrying the Shield with the safety off all the time except when I was reholstering and once ensconced in Kydex I'd flip the safety off.

About that time, seeing as I liked the Shield a lot, I looked into getting a compact for wintertime carry and tried out a range gun, which seemed to have a really easily moved safety lever. It appeared that just a casual brush up against something could change its position.

When a stupid good deal ($320 w/3 mags) for a new NTS 40c hit the guns.deals landing page I jumped on it. If the compacts had had a safety identical to the Shield's I probably would have passed on that sale and and tried to get a TS version, just for continuity of manual of arms sake.

Nope, too big for how I carry my 40C. So I agree with the OP wholeheartedly, except the safety. I'm okay with no safety.

I have a 9c, 40c and 357c...none have safeties. I would never suggest that others do as I do but I find no issue with what I have. My personal take on carry guns is that I want to pull and go without worries about a negligent discharge or no bang when I need it. I carry 3rd gens as well and the TDA's are carried off safe although I'm more likely to carry a DAO 3rd gen if I'm not carrying an M&P. No issues ever with control of the firearms in terms of safe handling.

I will carry a revolver from time to time as well but no matter what I'm carrying they are all pull and shoot. I don't carry a 1911 because I personally feel that they require additional training for cocked and locked and I want a heavier trigger on a carry gun...I do love them at the range though!

Bottom line for me is I think that if a person carries more than one firearm that they should all be the same as far as condition of readiness. I will most likely never pull my carry gun but if I do I want to focus on the situation and not have to think about the gun. If you like safeties then my opinion is that all your carry guns should have them so that your training is universal.

Of course this is JMHO and you may do as you please.

I do agree all carry guns should be of the same plateform, I always wonder when people talk of their "CCW ROTATION" different triggers, different safety, different holsters worn in different positions. when the S.H.T.F. do they have to under a stressful life threatening situation have to think today's Tuesday I carry my revolver on Tuesdays in a holster at three oclock, holly **** its wensday.....
As far as safety none of my M&P's have them, I do however sometimes wish I did have one with a safety for times when I do training and holster MANY times in a day.

I agree with cracker57's last comment. Makes sense to me that all guns intended for carry by one person should be the same. That is, have the manual of arms, the same controls in the same locations, etc. I worry about this a lot.

I also like a decocker and DA on the first shot -- because that trigger, that trigger is where bad things can happen under pressure, or even when re-holstering a handgun. But surely, even if you train a lot, having different controls on different guns (that you carry) would seem to make it worse. This seems like a bigger issue than safety or no-safety, which gets a lot of words on the internet forums.

Same here. While it may seem that the M&P safety is easy to disengage accidentally, in my experience, it doesn't work that way in practice. I've carried my EDC 40c with thumb safety for 2 1/2 years with a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster, with a 5.11 holster shirt, and with a Galco KingTuk IWB holster, and I've never had the safety accidentally flip off.
