Depends on what you bought it for. Shields are fairly cheap right now, but I would jump on a .45 for $240. I'd probably keep it (unless you really need $240).

$250ish sounds about right. Check over on Gunbroker to try and get an idea of what used Shields are bringing.

I sold mine recently for $250. That's what I had in it after the rebate so I didn't lose money. Sold it pretty quickly at that price too.

That's what used price is. Right now, prices on Shields are Way down. One place online is getting $288 shipped, with two extra mags, for a total of four mags. That's a deal any day and three times on days that end in "Y". All this does is drive used prices down, even more.

Unfired guns are usually sold as NIB. (if actually in the box).

You made a wise decision, Alleycat. The deal that you were offered was not in your best interest.

They are not. It's not legal to do so, in my state anyways. More than one store has told me that they are not allowed to do that. They can say it's used, never fired.

How can an unfired gun be considered used? IMHO, that is new old stock.

Once it's had one FFL 4473 filled out, it shouldn't be sold as new.
If I bought a gun from a dealer and they claimed new, but the gun had already been sold/4473 completed, and it came up in a trace with the ATF knocking on my door, I'd be pissed.

A FFL dealer can't resell a gun as new once it's been sold and 4473 completed, even if the owner never fired it, has all the box, papers, etc. A private citizen can advertise it as NIB/unfired, or any other description of condition, providing that state law doesn't preclude it, and as long as there is no attempt to defraud.
If someone was selling a Shield 45, unfired, with box, papers, mags, etc for $240...I'd buy that every day and twice on Sunday. If I was going to try to sell one like that, I would list it for at least $350 or keep it...unless I really, really needed the money. If you can't get more than $250 for it, I'd shoot it first, since that's a used price...and then you might decide you want to keep it anyway.

I am in the market for a Shield 45. They had a sale at Cabela's, but by the time I got there they were all sold out and won't even let me order one at the sale price now. Looks like I also missed out on the rebate, so my timing isn't great right now. I haven't found anywhere else around that has any in stock, there is a place in town that will let me order the version with night sights and 3 magazines for $505. I am going to try to hold out to find it a little cheaper.
$250 would be awesome!

Grabagun has basic shield with thumb safety for $339. Without safety I think $359.

I just bought the .45 version for $389.99 plus tax for cash and $399.99 plus tax for credit card. I paid cash so it worked out to $414.00 OTD IIRC. Filed the rebate but haven't seen my $75 yet.
I too would buy them all day long and THREE times on Sunday for $240.

I just recently purchased a new shield 45 for $370 with the 2 mags, 2 boxes of ammo and mag loader rebate. I really like this pistol. I had the shield 9, but my wife really likes it, so she's always carried it. I carried my xds 45 for years until I got my shield 45. I would never sell it, let alone for $240. Tell your lowballin friend, take his offer elsewhere, and better come correct next time.

I guess it depends on how good of a friend you have, what goes around...

What it is worth and what you want to sell it for are very different things. Once a 4473 has been filed, the price you will get from a retail purchaser (LGS), even if never taken from the box, never fired, drops to about 50% of what that dealer can buy one from his distributor for.
What you can get from a private individual is negotiation.

For $240 I would buy it from you but since its probably not MA compliant it probably can't be shipped to MA. Here in the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts all firearms must have a 10 pound trigger pull to make them safer should a child get their hands on one.
I also disagree that once a 4473 has been filled out that the gun is used. I understand what you are trying to say but if the gun was still not fired except for factory testing then IMHO it is still NIB. There are many safe queens out there that have changed hands several times but are still considered NIB because they have never been shot since leaving the factory.
