Went to Cabela's to check out the M&P 2.0 Compact in 9mm without safety that they had in stock (my LGS hasn't been able to get the Compact yet). I thought that out of the box the trigger was rough with a long take up. I haven't heard anything but rave reviews about this pistol on the forums, so was kinda surprised. Was this gun the exception or what?

I handled one at Cabela's this weekend as well. I thought the takeup was "longish". It was a bit gritty as well, but the actual break and reset were crisp and relatively light. Not a big improvement over my Shield .45, but likley to get better with some use. Loved the size and it is on my list as my next gun. It is a perfect utility gun for me. Bedstand, range and in a pinch, it is possible to conceal carry. Add a couple of 17round mags and you have a really flexible platform, at a realy good price.

I agree 100%. I picked one up from a local dealer the other day for a decent price, and compared to the trigger on my performance center shield, and the trigger on the 2.0 is decent, but not amazing. Slightly gritty, but clean break and excellent reset. Love the size of the compact too. It’s like the Glock 19. Except comfortable to hold. Very pleased with it.

Agree on the trigger. When dry fired, I give it a D+, in actual live fire, I rate it B+ The M2.0 ergos are great and the grip texture phenomonal.

Agree with all above from my limited exposure to the Compact. I was also pleased that my wife's small hands could operate it.

The trigger feel obviously wouldn't be a concern in a home defense situation, but there is the pride of ownership thing too. Is it a good assumption that the available info and videos on improving the other models of M&P 2.0 trigger will work the same way for the Compact too?

My experience with the M&P line is that most of the grittiness you feel in the trigger is due to the striker safety riding in its channel. Clean out that channel, and all will be well.

I love a nice crisp trigger in all my rifles . So I end up polishing/trigger job or replacing the triggers in my pistols anyway. M&P triggers once upgraded are far superior to any glock trigger I've shot. I used to be a glock guy. The beauty of the m&p 2.0 is even if you put a 200$ apex trigger in it now your at $600-$700 For a super accurate pistol with an amazing trigger. Truthfully I've only put the m&p 2.0 45 in the ransom so far. But if the 9mm shoots anything like it . I will be buying every size M&P 2.0 9mm available.

I bought one after shooting a demonstration 2.0c provided by a S&W rep. The trigger was not as good, however no way of knowing how many rounds have been through the demo gun. With 200 rounds fired and at least as many dry fires, it has improved greatly. I agree take up is long, but reset is excellent as is the grip. I will eventually add night sights and use it as a carry/home defense gun. For this reason I won't modify the action.

your results might vary, but mine felt very good out of the box and has only gotten better with use. I am up around 900 rounds so far and like this pistol better every time I fire it. Give it some time to break in.

On mine the triggers really smoothed out after around 300 rounds. Take up is smooth now with a nice break.

Agreed. With everything I've heard and read about the trigger I thought it would be good but handled a 2.0 Compact at my LGS and was not even slightly impressed by the trigger. It was gritty as gravel dust. Hopefully can find another with better trigger.

Thanks All. I feel better about the trigger and am headed to LGS tomorrow to put a 9mm Compact with safety on order. Cabela's has the one I want available in 2 days, and the LGS has no idea when they can get it, but I have to support the LGS. He's a good guy, and I can wait.

I've fondled two different M&P 2.0 Compacts at the gun shops so far. One had an excellent trigger and the other one was a bit rough. I suspect the first one has already been dry fired quite a bit because it was at a much larger shop.

The take up is not any longer than any other M&P. I have found at the M&P line has the most inconsistent triggers across models that I have ever seen. No two seem to be identical.

I would agree they are inconsistent. I got two brand new unmolested ones. One came with a really smooth trigger out of the box and one had a noticeable hitch in it. There was a little burr on the trigger bump hump, I smoothed it out and now it is fine, nice and smooth. Probably would have worked itself out by shooting eventually. But if it was my only sample and I didn't know how to fix it I could understand being put off. For what it's worth, Glock triggers can also vary widely from sample to sample with similar causes.

All things considered, for the low price these are selling for, I guess some inconsistency is just going to happen. I got mine for $424, if it takes me five minutes to fix a hitch in the trigger I can live with that.

Put the 2.0Compact on order this afternoon at the LGS. Said he thinks his delivery situation is improving.

I just picked one up today, the manual safety version. The trigger pull on it is light and crisp. It also was straight of the back room with no prior fingers playing with it. If you're looking to get one of these don't be afraid to ask to try out several before making a choice. Some will be about perfect while others will need some work.

Guess I got lucky. Picked up my 9 m2.0 Compact yesterday and headed straight to the range....quick take down, oiled and 45 rounds down range. Trigger almost as good as my CORE with APEX kit. No need for the kit in this one!!! Wahoo. One full mag of 115, 124 and 147 with flawless performance. Seems accurate but gonna need more range time. LOVE IT

I picked up my 2.0 compact 9mm today. Trigger was gritty. It was the ramp on the trigger bar that actuates the striker safety plunger. That, and there was a definite break-over point that had a very prominent feel as the trigger bar ramp topped out over the plunger. I didn't like that at all.

The ramp had a small machining nick that I could catch a nail on and the face of the ramp was just generally rough. I took a diamond file to the ramp face and smoothed it, then put a little more radius at each end of the ramp that allows the ramp to engage the plunger smoother and also to smooth out the break -over as it tops out over the plunger then polished the area.

Much better. One continuous smooth pull now, except for a little inconsistent grittiness and sticking of the plunger that I can feel now so I'll be removing it for polishing.
