Default 2.0 Compact vs. Full Size

Had a chance to try both out today at a S&W demo. And I was surprised that there was not much difference in size between the two. In fact, at one point I thought I was shooting the Compact 2.0 and only later realized that I had actually shot the full size.

I thought the sizes were too similar as well. I went with a 2.0 5" (for competition), a 2.0 Shield (for EDC), and a 2.0 Compact (for both competition and carry), all in 9mm. The 4.25" full-size just didn't address any of my needs well.

If I could get only one, I think it would be the 2.0 Compact. I guess a lot of folks feel that way, since the G19 (same size as the 2.0 Compact) is one of the most popular handguns.

I thought I was shooting the 2.0 Compact in .45 ACP. The mags for the demo were 10 round mags, even for the 9mm Compact 2.0. I realized later that the 2.0 in .45 ACP used a 10 round mag. So, it had to be the full size, since the Compact 2.0 is an 8 round mag in .45 ACP.

I had just shot the 9mm and then switched to the .45 and didn't really notice or feel any difference in size.

I have both the Shield and the FS, the 2.0 9 compact has caught my attention. I may sell both the Shield and the FS to get the Compact, small enough to CC with large capacity, best of both worlds.

That's why I thought it was odd that they made the compact bigger in the 2.0 series. Not only is it less "Compact" but it's within a fraction of an inch in both directions. Just not seeing the logic in having the two models marketed at once. Then again, I've never been a big fan of the Glock 19 either.

They are so close to one another..... the 2.0 is a little easier to conceal.
I will purchase my 2.0 .40 in April to add to my stable. I will have to get used to that aggressive texture though..

I think the Smith SD9 VE is a close match up to the G19 and the 2.0 . I pcked the SD up not long ago and it been flawless ,picked up a few more mags and a Desantis holster for it and it all comes together .

The S&W M&P compact 2.0 with the thumb safety has caused me to abandon my Glock 19s. No longer do I have to worry about Glock leg.
Trigger good enough for competition and good enough for carry. Bore axis rivals Glock no muzzle flip. Will be my IDPA pistol from now on!!

It "ALMOST" looks like a Glock. The SDVE series kind of draws you away from the G19 because of its SS finished slide.
I'm going to be buying one from ACADEMY very soon. It's the only place that sells the SD9 & SD40.
I recently purchased a used SD9VE. Last night out of curiosity I compared the specs of it with those of the M&P 2.0 Compact. They are nearly identical. Not certain why, but that surprised me. The SD9VE is now my target and EDC gun.

That compact size hits the sweet spot between concealability and having enough grip

I have both the SD9VE and a new M2.0 Compact 9. They truly are very close to identical in physical dimensions. But make no mistake, while I truly like my SD9VE, and I have more than one, they will not be replacing my 2.0 Compact 9 as my main carry gun. There is absolutely no comparison in the triggers, and I don’t think you could ever get the SD9 trigger to match the M&P.

A few months ago I did a comparison review of my SD9VE and M&P 2.0 Compact:

Range report: M&P 2.0 Compact vs. SD9VE

Bottom line, the M&P shoots better but I think for a first-time handgun buyer the SD9VE is going to be the better value. In fact I dare say that the SD is probably hurting M&P 2.0C sales somewhat.
