Default Shield Return Spring

Is the return spring for the Shield 9mm the same as the M&P 9? If not who makes different strength springs for the Shield?

By “return spring” you mean the recoil spring assembly (RSA)?

If so, are you wanting a set of springs that make it easier for you to rack the slide, without compromising function?

I had a hard time racking the slide on mine when I first got it. I found this one and installed it. Made it much easier to work the slide plus these advantages and you can use +P ammo with it.

OVERALL ADVANTAGES

Faster follow up
Improved speed
Slide and Frame Protection
Elimination of jams
Significant recoil reduction
Better double-tap concentration
Better control and greater accuracy

I'm very happy with it and have not have any problems with it.

1. No.
2. Try leaving the slide locked open when not in use, and shoot 500 rounds or so through the gun to break it in and "set" the spring. Putting a noticeably weaker recoil spring in and shooting full power ammo can compromise reliability and durability.

Added: The DPM system noted above is not the same as simply going to a weaker spring, as evidenced by its $85 price.

Default Problems racking Shield slide

You are not alone my friend. Use the search function of this forum to look up this issue. When I bought my Shield, my wife couldn't rack the slide and I found it unusually stiff. Just as you've heard above, after a break in period of a couple of hundred rounds, it will work itself out. Enjoy.

I and my daughter both shoot my 1.0 Shield...I'm 64 and hands aren't what they used to be (arthritis). We both had a very hard time racking the slide. Switched to a SS Stainless Steel Guide Rod (brand name) Problem solved. Plus there is just something that gives me a warm fuzzy feeling having a stainless steel guide rod over a polymer guide rod.

I have the DPM RSA on my Shield, too. I does what it claims to do. Doesn't feel to me that it makes the slide any easier to rack, though. But I haven't had any trouble in that respect, either.
