Default Picked up an M&P 9 Pro

Found one "used" on Tuesday while I was out and about just browsing. Looked pretty new and so did the magazines. Felt good with nice balance. Love the plain black rear sight. Trigger feels a little better then my stock FS M&P, which has proven ULTRA reliable and accurate enough for an out of the box striker pistol. Wife and I put 150 rds into it yesterday. For me it shot POA/POI, for her it was about 1.5" low at 10 yards. That said her "younger eyes" put 3 out of 5 rds though the same hole pretty consistently. For me consistent 10 shot groups of 1.5", which is just a hair bigger then with my two target pistols. (My eyes are old, and I'm happy to maintain inch and a quarter groups. Sometimes I get lucky and get a few under an inch.)

I like the gun. I like and trust my FS M&P which has become my nightstand pistol. I really can't see keeping both, but I'm not in a hurry to dump either one. If the Pro proves as reliable over the next 1000 rds then it will probably be the keeper. Not sure if the pro line takes standard night sights, which I like on my night stand pieces, or at least a tritium front.

My only real gripe, and not sure if this particular pistol is the only one that does this: the texture on the interchangeable straps is different, and I do like the way it feels. But these all seem to have a little "wiggle" when installed, where as my standard FS does not.

I purchased a Pro a couple of months ago and really like it. Everything about it fits me just right. Right off the bat I could shoot it better that my 2 Glocks (17 and 26) and better than my (2) 45's (Baer TRS and Wesson Valor). I'm not certain why it shoots so well for me - just does.

I can see it working better then the Glock, and I am not bashing Glock. I've worked in a few different stores over the years. Each store sold a LOT of Glocks and never had one come back. I respect them for what they are. But most they will agree, it's as ergonomic as brick, and ergonomics make a HUGE difference in shoot-ability. The M&P line was a vast improvement on that aspect. Glad to hear you like your M&P Pro!

Perhaps it is a sight alignment issue. You might be covering the target with the dot while she is might be "lollipopping" the target.

Default Low shots common M&P Pro issue

I've had my long slide Pro for several years now. I found the trigger to be fine but the barrel fit had a lot of slop and just did not hold groups like it should have, plus it shot really low when using a traditional sight alignment/sight picture.

I installed the Apex semi-fitted barrel and that solved my grouping issues and has a nice lock-up and slop free fit now. As far as the sight picture there are two common solutions: Some opt to replace the .180 front sight post with a .160. A lot of people like the Dawson Precision offerings. In my case I adjusted my sighting and cover my intended target with the green dot on the front sight. Obviously, that is not the sight picture that lends itself to the best bulls-eye shooting but it is great for quick target acquisition such as an IDPA match which is what this model was ideally designed for. I can still do acceptably well from 25 yards covering the bullseye with the green dot but depending how bulls-eye accurate you want to be you may want to consider the lower front sight to obtain a traditional front sight alignment/picture. I go back and forth myself some days because when I take my Pro out on the range I have to remember it's a totally different approach then with all my other three dot sights and there is something to be said for having as much consistency as one can across your various platforms. For now I'm keeping it stock because I enjoy ringing steel more than anything.

Had my 9L Pro for over one year now and have no issues with the back strap loosening up although I have not changed out the original one. I have removed it for cleaning and it seems the take down rod does firmly hold the bottom of the back strap in place but you probably know that. May be your "used" M&P Pro acquired a back strap from another pistol.

I bought one a couple of months ago and love the way it shoots. Very accurate and POA/POI are good. I was looking for something else when I ran across this one and didn't really know that it is designed for Competition/Target shooting right out of the box so I looked it up after my first range trip and it shot so much better than another pistol I was shooting. The grip and balance are great and the trigger is lighter than my other 1.0 M&P. I hope you enjoy shooting yours as much as I do mine.

I am a big fan on the 5" M&Ps. To the point that I have a 9pro, 40pro, 9CORE and 9PC (all in 5".) ( I had intended to thin that heard but just can't seem to pick one to go :-) Love the ergonomics and sight radius but most of all, they are not finicky with ammo. Mine particularly like 125 and 130 gr bullets.

As for the back strap, I'd try swapping them between your guns to see if it's the strap itself or the frame. Either way, my bet is S&W will make it right if you ask them.
BTW: CORE guns had a more aggressive texture so you might have gotten one of them. Either way, Rubber Talon Grip tape is cheap and works wonders to give you a improved gripping surface.

I totally agree with the Talon Rubber Grips. They really do improve your your grip, been a fan for quite a while!
