Default Sights causing Trigger Issues?

I have a Shield 45 PC. The first issue it had was the trigger failing to reset. The gun would fire, eject spent shell and chamber a fresh round but the trigger would not reset. It remained locked fully rearward. I also noticed that the sights had moved in fact the front sight had almost fallen off. A gunsmith centered them but the gun continued to have trigger resetting issues, almost every round. I sent the gun to S&W explaining both issues. After a long 2 month wait, why can Glock and Walther turn around warranty repairs in 2 weeks, the gun was returned to me. S&W replaced the sights and test fired the gun. They said the sights were causing the trigger issues. Anyone ever heard of this, I sure have not. I have not test fired the pistol myself but remain skeptical that sights could cause trigger issues. I did not speak to a gunsmith at S&W was not allowed to. I received that information from a phone "technical" rep.

The rear sight has the dis connector under it. Maybe that wasn't seated or assembled correctly. The front sight has no connection to the trigger.

2 months is a long wait. S&W did see a spike in sales of the Shields last year due to rebates and the unknown of the 2016 election. So a 1% return rate on 1 million sold is a lot of pistols ahead of you.

I do enjoy living in Atlanta and bringing my Glock to the mother ship. They do the work while I wait.

Update. I took it out this morning and fired 2 1/2 magazines. I had 5 failures to reset. The first magazine was 100% the second had 2 failures the third had 3 for 3 so I quit wasting ammo. Back to S&W. It is obvious that they only fired it a few times after replacing the sights. 2 months for this is ridiculous.

There is a trigger bar loop on the trigger bar and the gap between the end of the loop and the bottom of the trigger bar has to be within a certain dimension for the trigger to reset every time. The gap can also affect pre travel and after travel of the trigger.

This is a detailed trigger job. It does mention the trigger bar loop Trigger Job Of course, the sights play no part. Here's a video as well

I suspect ScaryWoody is on to something. There is something wrong with the pistol that developed over time. It is very irritating that S&W did not fix it the first time.

The M&P guns do not have a disconnector. What is under the rear sight is the striker block. This could cause issues, but not what the OP is experiencing.

Groundhog34,
The very first place I would look is the trigger return spring. If the trigger is not moving forward, it could be this spring. Of course, if it were, I would also think that S&W would have noticed. However, their claim that it was the sights is ludicrous.

Do you have any pictures of the gun? Especially with the slide removed? I would like to see the bottom of the slide and the inside of the frame.

Here's a little video I made on how the trigger works in an M&P:

EDIT: The Shield 45 trigger is a little different at the sear. That part isn't included in my video. Most of it is the same though.

I'm not a gunsmith and do not want S&W to have an excuse to disclaim the warranty so I returned the pistol for the second time. Twice for the same problem and 2 months to get my gun back is ridicules. To say the least I am unhappy.

Glock is probably getting a lot less warranty returns, simply because Glock gives you only a limited ONE YEAR warranty I believe, so a lot of those OOW repairs stay in local shops, vs. your M&P which has a full LIFETIME warranty. In other words, S&W is providing more free ongoing warranty service to more people.

GLOCK Warranty | GLOCK USA

And a quick scan of the forums will show that it's not always 2 weeks on Glocks...

"I sent my G21 in for repair around 2000. They had it TWO MONTHS and could not figure out the problem. I asked for the gun back because they were taking their time with it. The magazine would not insert all the way with all three magazines I had."
Warranty Repair Time

"Ok, I didn't forget to post the time it takes for warrenty repair currently so others can have an idea of what they may be looking at. Received the gun back and total time out was 50 DAYS. For what was wrong with it: It is a failure to feed issue in a 17C. At a rate of about 65% of shots being fired with some ammo."

Warranty Repair Time

"3RD TRIP to Smyrna for my G19 (BTF, stove pipes). It's been taking 5-6 WEEKS to get it back."
