Default M&P 2.0 and Apex forward set trigger kit

Hi All,

I've installed numerous Apex kits, but never the flat faced set trigger kit. I installed it last night in my 2.0 9mm full size and had a question about the gap between the trigger bar and the sear actuator. To me, the trigger bar sits uncomfortably close to the sear actuator at 1/16th of an inch. When I pull the trigger to test the trigger safety (not pullling the blade safety), it moves to within a 1/32th (aka hair width) from touching the sear actuator. The gap looks wider in the photos than in actuality, so take the measurements into account.

I've attached photos, showing both positions. The trigger works fine and all safeties function as they should. I know the trigger kit reduces pre-travel by 40%, but is this close of a gap normal for this trigger kit? Would anyone else be uncomfortable with such close tolerances?
I called Apex and they said it's fine, but could not give me an answer on what the approximate gap width would be. They only said every gun is different and if it passes the function checks, then it's good.

Thanks!

I am uncomfortable with the FSS kit in anything but a competition range-only pistol, but many of the public have chosen to use it in carry guns. As APEX says, if it works when you test it, then that's all you know. IMHO, if you are concerned that the factory tolerance is used up, then do you really want to use it off the range? Your choice.

As long as it doesn't touch when you don't want it to, it's good.

I never intended to carry it and it's only going to be a range gun. I'm just trying to confirm if the really close tolerances are typical of this flat faced forward set trigger set. If anyone else has one installed, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks.

Moonpup,

Perhaps I can add some insight. The gap you see is typical for the M2.0 system. The minimum gap should be roughly .040". Our drop test protocol requires a 6 foot drop onto concrete in 27 different orientations, so while it makes me cringe when I see/hear the gun hit the slab, I know that we have done our very best to ensure our product integrates with the pistol safely.
The forward set system is designed to get as close to a box stock Colt 1911 (as far as trigger travel) in a striker fired pistol while maintaining all all safety values. The only way to do that in the M2.0 is with our patented sear actuator. If you feel uncomfortable or in any way believe it is unsafe, we do have our more traditional Action Enhancement trigger kits that utilize the factory actuator which will give you more pre-travel but maintain a much larger gap.

Hope this helps,

Randy

Hi Randy,

Thank you for the reply! If anyone is going to know how to answer this question, it's you. I appreciate the explanation and the .040 number, as it's gives me something to compare against. Since I measured my gap at 1/16'th (0.0625), I guess I'm good Now, it's off to the range!

Hi Randy,

Thanks for the followup! The trigger pull and break is great, but I'm sorry to say that the reset is simply mush and almost non-existent. Any recommendations on improving the tactile and audible feedback of the reset?

Thanks
