Shield 45 reset
Hello all,
I don't post much, but check in everyday. I have a Shield 45 that I picked up after seeing the rebates and PSA deals mentioned here awhile ago. It's my first striker-fired polymer handgun and I really enjoy shooting it so thanks for the heads up. However, I have a question regarding the trigger reset. After firing, as I release the trigger there is no discernable reset click sound or feel like there is with my other handguns. I have 500 rounds through it without a single problem so just wondering if I should be concerned.
Thanks,
Ben

We have two M&P pistols, including a Shield and a full size 45, and I've never noticed a "reset click" or or felt the triggers "reset" on either of them. Maybe it's happening and I'm not sensitive enough to be aware of it. But I certainly don't consider it to be a problem.

On both my Shield 9 and 45 there is a very discernible reset. The 9 (1.0)is not as pronounced as the 45, but unless you're wearing gloves, you'll definitely feel it.

Swapping to an Apex sear gives a shorter more positive reset.

Thanks for the replies guys. I should have added in my post that I searched the forum first, but the latest info was from 2015. Mine was made 1/26/17 so maybe S&W made some changes after 2015? Like I said, it's fired every time so I'm not concerned, just wanted to know others experiences. I did have to get the new follower assemblies because the 7 round magazine tended to want to drop some, but it never affected it's performance.
Thanks again,
Ben

Ben,
All my handguns reset unless the trigger sticks for some reason in the most rearward position! What I'm saying up front is that the actual reset position does not matter to me as long as the gun functions and fires every time. It is, and has been for a very many years, my habit to allow my trigger finger to move fully forward within the trigger guard before beginning the next trigger press. Yes, I have short stroked a few, but it's been a very long time ago!
I shoot as quickly as I want or need to shoot and as accurately as my old eyes will allow me to see. If your handgun is functioning well, and it sounds like it is, I'd just keep on shooting it. I'm assuming that you have not had any problems making it go off every time you pull the trigger even absent a recognizable trigger reset. To be honest, I can't tell you whether my Shield 45 trigger reset can be heard or felt. I can tell you that my trigger has reset every time I have fired it since new, and that's been well beyond a thousand times. I personally have never been concerned about when or where the trigger resets. I am concerned to hear a loud noise and feel the recoil every time I pull the trigger. As long as that happens, I'm a happy camper!
Unless and you have a problem with your pistol firing reliably every time you pull the trigger, I say you are good to go! You may feel differently than I, and that's OK, but I just don't get worked up about trigger reset as long as it happens!

Ken,
Your point is well taken. I also have made it a habit to keep my finger on the trigger until it's full forward, and I have short stroked a few on my other handguns too while getting used to them, haven't yet with the shield though, it's gone bang every time. At 60+ yrs. old there's a lot less stuff I get worked up about now too, except not getting to the range as much as I'd like.
Thanks,
Ben
