Default new M&P 2.0 no oil or lube?

Hello All,

Just picked up a new 2.0. Have the 1.0 but wanted to upgrade.
Opened the box at my FFL, and the pistol is beautiful. Field
stripped it there, and found no oil, grease or any kind of lube
on the inside of the pistol. It was wrapped in the traditional
S&W brown and blue paper. Really thought that this was kind of odd. Anyone else run into this?

I've purchased 2 new S&W semi autos, neither had any oil or grease that I could see.

Hi Tradewinds,

Hmm, so it must not be me. Thought it was somewhat unusual
that there was no lubricant at all. My M&P 1.0 sat for almost
1 yr before I bought it, and it was covered with oil. (shipped
Nov. 2016, acquired Nov 2017) Must be a new procedure.

I bought my 2.0 in February and I honestly canít remember if it had any lube. But I believe I may have put a few drops on the rails and barrel.

My standard procedure it to clean and lube any gun I buy, new or used, before I shoot it.

I really enjoy cleaning and lubing. I think it's the smell. Feel sorry for the guys that don't know the pistols need lubing and just throw them in a drawer for "home defense" or go to the range and run them dry. Maybe that's why S&W customer service is so busy.

Got my new 2.0 9 shield about 2 weeks ago from LGS.

Came dry just as did my Shield 45.

Both with dirty barrel's from test fire at factory.

Seems normal to me......Up to the customer to do required oiling and cleaning.

Thanks for your experiences. I guess the stainless steels, and the new coatings make it possible to ship without any kind of
preservatives. Just struck me as odd since S&W doesn't know when the pistol will reach its ultimate destination.

As I said previously, my M&P 1.0 sat for a year before I obtained
it in 2017 (manufactured in 2016) The new M&P was bone dry with a dirty bore also.

Bought my M&P 9L in Oct 2016 online about 4 months after its manufacture and it had a thin coat of oil on the outside but nothing on the rails or interior. The trigger actually squeaked. After a few minutes of working a little oil into the H bar mechanism and a little polishing of a few surfaces I was a very satisfied customer. Don't need an aftermarket trigger.
