Default Shield 45: M1.0 or M2.0...What did S&W sell me???

I wanted a 2.0 Shield in 45 as I really like my 9mm 2.0, .380EZ 2.0 and my 5" M&P 9 2.0.

So I went on the S&W website, (see below) got the SKU number from the 2.0 page, called my LGS and picked it up today.

EXCEPT I'm not sure it's a 2.0. It doesn't say it on the slide. (See pics)

I'm not unhappy with the gun, just confused: the trigger is fine @ 4.0 lbs, crisp and clean, 3-dot sights and the grips are same as my 9mm.

I'll be calling S&W on Friday, but I thought I'd ask here just the same. (To the range tomorrow to give it a run-through.)

Here's the Smith web page, gun, and box.

Hope U got a "Really Great Deal" since that as u thought is "NOT" a 2.0 but the old version and all those sell at give away prices!

Cant believe U accepted it when U picked it up and it did not say 2.0! Then U could have sent it back and got a 2.0 but now U still should be able to collect the difference in $ between what U paid for a 2.0 and a old version!

There are pics of the new 2.0's all over the internet including S&W's website. I'm surprised you haven't noticed the difference. With that being said.... I own a 1st gen M&P 9mm and I wouldn't trade it in for nothing. I hope you got a good deal on the price of YOUR new 45 shield.

Googling around, seems like the 1.0 and 2.0 TS 45 Shields have the same sku. I suspect treachery!

I think the only difference is the 2.0 designation on the slide. I have a Shield 45 that I bought last year, and it has all the features described for the 2.0, even though it isn't labeled as such. When the Shield 45 was introduced, it had all the features that were later incorporated in the rest of the M&P 2.0 models...at that time, there wasn't a 2.0 line. The only thing to check, as far as I know, is to make sure that the new style followers are in your magazines. They weren't in mine, but I called S&W when I became aware that there was a new style follower, and S&W sent me some for free.

A big more explanation: I called S&W customer service before the LGS took delivery to make sure/double check that the 180022 SKU was indeed the right one for the 2.0. I was assured that it was. "18022 is the SKU for the 2.0."

Well okay then....it that's the right number then I'll be getting the right gun. Right?

Maybe wrong. Hopefully I'll get a better explanation when I call CS again.

Well, yes and no...if indeed the only difference between the "1.0" model and the 2.0 model is the designation on the slide...then you could argue that you got the 2.0 in all respects except the designation on the slide. You could also argue that you didn't get a 2.0 model, since it was not so marked.

I doubt that these guns will become collectibles, or that having the 2.0 designation will make it worth more. As Shakespeare said, "A rose by any other name still smells as sweet" or something like that. Maybe S&W will give you a free mag or two, or perhaps exchange the slide, if it really bothers you that much.

The real question is, are all the features the same? If there is a difference, be sure to post it here...not that I plan to buy a Shield 45 2.0, for a minor difference, but I'd just like to know.

Looks like your pistol was made January 6, 2017. I have one made the exact same day. It was my rebate gun. I don't know the date they started stamping 2.0.

I don't think M2.0 45s were out by Jan 2017. I could be wrong but when the Shield 45 was released, it had some upgrades to the trigger and grip over the Shield 9/40 (based on comments on this forum). The Shield 9/40 then announced the M2.0 with, I believe, a better trigger and the 45 grip. The other thing I noticed on the M2.0 9/40 is the trigger stop was changed. Someone on the forum somehow get their trigger stuck behind the trigger stop. The trigger stop on the M2.0 9/40 was moved above the hing on the trigger.

M2.0 9:

The grip texture matches the other 2.0 Shields. The logo on the grip does as well.

I have an early Shield 45. It has the old style trigger bar/loop. Someone mentioned the 2.0s do not have the old style trigger bar/loop. I haven't handled a later production 2.0 model to confirm.

I don't think so. As far as features, the guns are the same to my knowledge. There never really was a Gen 1 Shield 45; the Shield 45 was BORN as a 2.0 gun, with the advanced trigger and the new stippling on the handle. Just because Smith started stamping them with a 2.0 at some point doesn't mean much.

I just checked the S&W website. The M2.0 is SKU: 11523, not SKU: 180022.

Shield 45 was good 1st time around. 9 & 40 needed the 2nd gen to have the same functionality/ feel as the 45. Th 45 was well received with good feedback on the grip and trigger, hence the need for the 2.0 version on the 9 & 40 which fell short in those areas based on customer feedback. Most customers were getting trigger jobs and putting on Talon grips so S&W did that for you in the 2.0

Mystery solved: All those who said the Shield .45 HAS ALWAYS BEEN A 2.0 are correct.

The original .45 was the first Shield with the upgraded trigger and grips and whatnot....the 9 and 40 were later redone in the 2.0 mode to catch up to the .45.

The fact that it doesn't have the roll mark is meaningless in terms of function...and I had it out over the weekend and it shoots just fine. Perhaps a bit better than fine.

Many thanks to all who commented. As always the folk on this board are the most knowledgeable and forthcoming of any gun board anywhere.

Now, who knows the going price for an M&P .45 compact, 1.0 with apex trigger upgrade and nightsights? That's my next gun.

You sir, have corrected me. I still get confused with Smith's nomenclatures.
