S&W M&P 22 compact issue
So I've had the gun for a few months now and really enjoy shooting it, but I'm now having an issue where when i fire it the slide will lock open at random with rounds still in the mag. if I try to chamber a round I have to hold the slide release down with my finger to get it to close. If I hold the slide release down with my finger it works fine. I've tried cleaning it multiple times and even the mags. It seems the little steel pin in the slide where the slide catch impacts the slide release is protruding a bit out of the slide. I think it may have came out a bit. I used a brass punch and tapped it a bit and now it's flush and works fine for about 30 shots then works it's way out again. Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone know how that steel pin is held in or if I need to send it back for repair? Thank you in advance.

I have one with over 10k rounds, and have only had issues like that when the wax lube from the bullets built up on the front inside of the mag. It gets deep, and has to be scraped out.
Call CS.

Just put a drop of LocTite on each end of the pin, let it dry, should stop that pin from walking out!

I had this issue with both of the ones I own. I sent them back one a time so I could keep shooting. Both came back fixed and have not been a problem since. You could use the loctite as someone said but I figured I'd let them fix them right. They only get worse the longer you wait until you are tapping it back ever few rounds. Just tell them the roll pin is walking out.

Finally I realized what you are describing. Early on there was no pin there, and there was some peening of the slide. The pin is to provide a more resistant impact point. I had forgotten that I sent mine back for that as a secondary issue with something else I noted in my book (I got one of the first in town).
My comment remains the same - call CS and describe the problem. They need to know that the design failed.

Mine works fine, knock on wood. Good luck with your fixes.
