Default New M&P Compact 2.0 that looks used?

Hi, this is my first Forum that I ever have been on.
I was hoping to get someone's opinion who has purchased new Smith & Wesson's. I have many guns but I just recently purchased my first Smith & Wesson M&P compact 2.0. I have never purchased a new gun that has a barrel that looks like it has had hundreds of rounds through it. I understand the Smith & Wesson test-fires there Firearms before sending them out but this looks like more than just a few rounds. If you could please view pictures and give your opinion. When I look down the barrel of this new firearm I feel like I purchased a used firearm. The place that I brought it from had another brand new one that looked the same way used. I visited several other gun stores and looked at theirs and they looked new like they should look.
Thank you very much Carl

Yes, that looks fired to me too. Don't worry about it, just go shoot it.

I have to ask though, if it bothers you, and you saw better looking guns at other stores, why didn't you get one of those instead?

Have you cleaned it and ran a patch of oil through it? A few of my M&Ps I bought were dry down the pipe but they always look good after the fact.

And my barrels with around 2k through them still look new.

I went to different gun stores after I had already purchased this gun to see if they all look the same. I ran a patch through it with hoppers gun solvent on it. Then ran a cotton swab through it did not oil it though. Still looks the same. It wouldn't bother me if it was my wear. on the barrel but this is a brand new gun

If it looks the same after running gun cleaning solvent down the bore, why would you think that it has been shot a lot?

The place to look for wear is the top of the barrel where the slide cams it down. I'd bet you will find little wear, if any.

Here’s my 2.0 barrel. Bought new February 2018. Probably about 400 rounds through. Tried to get the best light possible.

Ok, I think you are probably right. Very light wear on top of the barrel in comparison to the markings on the inside of the barrel. Just never would have expected to see this out of a new gun. Thank you for your input and pictures.

Some years ago, I contacted S&W and asked why their guns seemed to be dirty when they shipped them out. They told me that after assembly and cleaning, they were test fired to insure functionality. If they cleaned them after the test firing, they'd have to test fire them again, since the cleaning process involves disassembling the gun. At least that's what they told me...

So the guns need to be tested for reliability after each clean?

I wouldn't worry about it, shoot a few hundred rounds through it and it will look like that anyway.

They are great pistols, get out and have some good safe fun with it.

I hope you were joking, but No, it doesn't mean that.

There could be a liability issue. If they tear the gun down, then reassemble without retesting, it has no longer been tested in the condition it will be shipped.

I talked to SW CS about this a few years ago. They advised that at least a few rounds are run through each gun, and they do not clean them afterwards, so that the customer will see that it was tested.

Some are selected for more extensive testing, it wasn't clear if "at random" or every X units.

You will not get a perfectly clean gun from SW as I understand it.

That looks normal. If it was used you'd see the Armornite finish wearing off the exterior of the barrel where it contacts the slide and on top of the exposed barrel where the slide ejection port is.
