damage to sear
Has anyone had this issue? Just bought this m&p 9mm 2.0 compact. I put 400 rounds thru it and when I cleaned it noticed the sear had what looks like a pit in the front top surface. See photo

Both of mine have it. Same spot and size. It’s just a casting mark most likely. Here’s a picture of one of mine for reference.

Yes, my 1st gen M&P 9mm has it too, exact same spot. I sent mine in to the performance center for the M&P action package and they replaced the sear with a machined steel sear from the performance center. Problem solved...These stock parts look like they're MIM parts. Probably what we're seeing are casting marks.

Yep, the sear is MIM. However, that's not a contact area so no harm, despite looking foul.

I contacted S&W about this and sent them a picture (same picture), they sent me a label to send the gun (M&P 9c) to them, 7 weeks later I get the gun back with no work being done. I called them to ask about it, they said the dimple/mark on the sear is normal.

Haha, sounds like S&W repair. Sorry, didn't mean to laugh but I've had a couple similar experiences with them.

I’ve never noticed that mark until now. It shoots perfectly since day one that’s all that matters to me.

Interesting; You got me curious and I needed to clean mine, so I looked. My 2.0 compact has this mark but none of my 1st gen guns have it. Must be a "new and improved" sear.

My 1st gens have a similar mark but not on top. They are on the face of the small "tab" on the front of the sear. The deactivation lever pushes up under this tab.

No problem, nothing contacts the Sear in that area.

Just a sprue mark from casting. Not aesthetically pleasing, but what on a plastic fantastic is?

No matter what, it's not an issue. The actual sear is at the back. Nothing contacts the sear in this location so, it's not an issue.

Just send your M&P 9/40 back to S&W for the "M&P action package". They'll email you a free FedEx return label. $120 bux and 3 months later your's can look like this and shoot like a dream.
Performance Center sear.
Check out the bevel & polish job on the firing pin block.
Polished the ramp
