Question Galloway's NEW Bodyguard Trigger

First post.. I think? Although I've snooped around for ever..
I've got a 9 Pro, 9 Shield and Compact 22 with Apex triggers, Talon Grips and this and that..
Just got a smoke'n deal on a Bodyguard and was researching trigger's for something to make that DA revolver like trigger easier to use. Of course I came across Galloway.. and see some talk of light primer strikes (including Hickoc45) ..It appears Galloway just came out with a new kit that replaces the hammer with one with different geometry -where the old kit had a shorter trigger bar.
All the internet feedback for the most part seems to be on the old kit (including Hickoc45).
Anybody have any experience with this new kit? ...what do you guys think about it? Thx.

As a pocket carry I like the intent that S&W has for the trigger they tested and designed. The BG380 is the perfect replacement for my J-frame.

I fully get that.. understood. And part of the reason I chose it (although I have all Smith's), carrying hammer down and second strike ability along with last round hold open are good reasons to purchase. Know worries with +1 in the chamber or safeties and really not too much concern with covering the trigger guard the way it is out of the box but there's no reason not to consider upping your accuracy and shootability if you can for $99.

Just weighing my options.. Anybody got any thoughts on the new kit?

the only concern i have is the hammer spring [it is , if i understand, a stronger spring than the original]. i bought their stronger hammer spring and installed it in a Bodyguard. after a trip to the range, i reinstalled the original. the rest of the kit looks good to me. the hammer has to be an improvement over the original. you'll have to risk $99 to find out if it's right for you.

Did you have light primer strike problems with a stock gun? Or just taking preventative measures against having any?

Not mine but my range buddy who I shoot with almost weekly, has the .380 Body Guard.
He loves the gun, except for the trigger, and through about 200 rounds has had no light strikes or FTF or FTE.
He knows about the trigger improvement kit from Galloway but hasn't decided if he wants to spend $100 plus pay a gunsmith to install it.

no, i didn't have light primer strikes. i was just curious about the stronger spring. the only light primer strikes i've had were with Fiocchi ammo. i'm only using Federal ammo as i understand Federal uses the "softest" primer of any of the ammo manufacturers.

these micro pistols are a real challenge for manufacturers, especially at the price point they are selling for. the Bodyguard is kind of like the Dallas Cowboys....you either hate them or love them.

Well I have to support the Dallas Cowboys I grew up doing so through good and bad.. as for the BG380 I like it to for the convenient pocket size and the DA action that feels safer in a pocket. I wouldn't mind paying Galloway for a little better trigger but I'm afraid of the light strike problems 380's are known for.
Guess I wait a little for more feedback to show up online on they're new kit.
If anybody digs up this thread that has any experience or thoughts on this new kit (with the replacement hammer) please post it up.

i'm a Cowboy fan from the git go in the early 60's, so i've had alot to cheer about, but not lately. also a real fan of the .380 BG.
Galloway also has a metal magazine release to replace the plastic. i have one on order, but they are back ordered. the plastic mag release is one of the real gripes about the BG. if you decide to try the new trigger kit i'd spend another $23 and get the metal mag release.

I recently installed the new Galloway trigger in my Bodyguard. It didn't change the heavy pull, but it did reduce the long travel a bit. I can more easily feel when it's going to drop the hammer. I've had zero problems so far shooting 100 rounds with 2 brands of ammo. Now it has finally warmed up here so I'll be shooting more. If I was going to use it strictly for self defense, I would have left it alone. But I enjoy making holes in paper plates with all my guns.

I'm not considering the Gallaway trigger at this time. That's not because I think it's bad. I just like the contrast between my Bodyguard and LCP II.

Sometimes I feel like a long pull, sometimes I don't.

My BG is new and I think has a factory metal mag release.. at least I don't notice any issues at all. I don't have to press the release in order to insert a mag as I read some people do.. and no accidental releases or issues with depressing the button at all. I'm assuming they finally fixed and/or improved it.

"Reduced travel a bit" ..you think you got a $100 worth of improvement? I think they claim a 35% reduction in travel. I was hoping for more improvement than "a bit" seems to imply. Almost sounds like "not much difference".
Better yet, did it improve your accuracy and make it easier to put your shots where you want them?

Did I get $100 worth out of it? I think so, and I'd do it again. I've been shooting it more now that it's warmed up outside. And I like it. 35% sounds close to what I got. The trigger used to travel all the way back to the trigger guard before the hammer would fall. Now it's well before that. I really should measure the difference somehow.

The real advantage is, I now can feel when the hammer will fall much better than before. That has improved my accuracy quite a bit. I now get consistent results and smaller patterns. And that is worth the $100.

As I mentioned, if the gun was strictly for self defense, I would not have bothered. In drawing and shooting while in fear for my life, the stock trigger is just fine. But for enjoying making holes in paper plates, and shooting for fun, the new trigger is an improvement. A $100 improvement.

Thanks jrclen for expelling on your experience with it, that really helped alot and what I was looking for. You had already said you weren't having any light primer issues so I'm thinking I'll give it a try.
I understand what you're saying in that it would get the job done as it is for quick and close up self defense but as you stated if I own it I'll want to put some rounds through it at the range and it sounds like it made definite difference for you. If it makes you more confident and comfortable with it I'd think it to be worth it even if does get the job done left stock.
Thanks again for your reply.

Never a single failure before or after the trigger job. And by following the video for installation, I found it very easy to install. During the install I did notice a disturbing click in the trigger pull when testing it before completing the assembly. I was concerned enough to repeat what I did up to that point. To no avail. But I pushed ahead and found it disappeared when I completed the assembly. I thought I would mention it just in case you notice the same thing. The trigger pull is very smooth. You'll be pleased.

I had the original Galloway trigger in my Bodyguard. I really liked the reduction in travel. Stock, it seems so long that I am twisting the grip for the last bit of travel. It ended up failing over time - the reason, I assume, they discontinued that trigger and went with the newer one. I am tempted by the newer one as it eliminates the part that failed, but half-holding out in case S&W release a 2.0 Bodyguard.
