Default Disappointed in my MP9 2.0 Compact and SW's service

I bought a MP9 2.0 compact several months ago. It went through about 2000 rounds, all factory ammo. Everything was find until a month ago when the firing pin or the striker broke. I sent it back for repair and got it back a week ago.

I took it to the range to try it out, only to found out it shot about 4-6 inches left to where I aimed at. I managed to shoot 10 groups of five. I racked the slide ten times and it jammed three times.

I was using sellier bellot 115 grs, which I shot 1000 rounds with this gun before it broke and had zero issue. The magazine has been working fine before, so it should not be the cause. I noticed that the first round was turned to the right and did not get into the chamber. I did not have my phone with me in the range, so I don't have a picture.

I took a close look at the rear sight when I got home and found it is way to the left. I will go back to the range and test it again. If it still jams I will have to send it back to S&W. It was a sweet pistol, but my experience just does not build my confidence about its reliability and S&W's workmanship.

Sorry for the long rant, I am just very frustrated. This is my first S&W pistol, and may be my last.

It's clearly your rear sight. That's why they are adjustable, and should be set whenever acquiring a new gun. However, it probably happened at S&W.

Was the gun you sent in the same one you got back? I don't know how replacing the striker could cause failures to feed.

Did the gun jam while firing or only when you racked the first round in? Either is unacceptable but jamming while firing is a much more serious issue. I have had a couple of guns like a Kahr PM9 that were reliable when being fired but had issues when manually cycled. Frustrating at the range but I still trusted them for carry since I keep a round in the chamber. I eventually replaced the Kahr with a less finicky Glock 43. The older I get the less tolerance I have for picky or even slightly unreliable guns.

Too bad about the sight. The rear sight has to be removed to get at the spring for the firing pin block so I am guessing the factory took it off for that reason. But they did a really poor job when they put it back on.

Are we pulling the slide all the way to the rear and letting it snap forward or riding the slide? Did we clean and lube the pistol after it was returned? S&W does function test guns before they are returned. They may have wiped everything dry when they worked on the gun.

I don't see an issue with the rear sight other than the gunsmith that worked on it should have centered it before it left the factory. Loosen the set screw, center the sight, and check to see if it's sighted in again.

As an afterthought; are we shooting the same manufacturing lot of S&B that functioned fine prior to sending it back?

The lower is the same because it still has the same SN. I am not sure about the slide though. I took a closer look at it yesterday. I found two things based on memory since I don't have pictures before sending it back.

1. The front sight was a lightly tilted to the right. Its vertical edge did not aligned that well against the rear sight's. Not they align almost perfectly.
2. I noticed two marks around the ejection port (the two red circles in the attached picture). I don't remember they were there. I never worked on it, never dropped it. It stayed in the safe at home or in the case in the car, except one day in the holster during the training. I don't know if regular ejection would leave a mark like that.

It only jammed when I tried to rack the first round in, never during firing. I ordered a sight pusher and will try it at the range after fixing the sight. I really hope it is just me, not the gun.

OK. The jamming issue needs to be figured out. Buy some quality ammunition and see what happens. Stop fussing over the dang sight. Take a brass punch and center it. It's a sub $500 plastic pistol, not a custom 1911.

It happened after a empty mag, so the slide is already locked back. I only needed to pull it back a little and release it. I can be sure I did it correctly all the time, but three out of ten is unusual considering I've racked it a few hundred times with live rounds without any glitch.

I did clean it and lube it after I got it back. You can see some of the fresh white grease I put on the guide rail in the rear sigh picture.

The sight is not a big deal. I was just disappointed that I need to wait another week to adjust the sight and try it out. Imagine you see your girlfriend first time after a few week's trip, then discover it is that day of the month.

Since it's just range ammo, I did not pay much attention to the details. Judging from the box size and the cleanness of my finger after using the ammo, they are the same. Slightly off topic, my fingers looked like I was playing with coal after shooting the Blazer Brass ammo.

I surely hope it is just user error which caused the jam. Only a few thousands more rounds will tell.

Desert Fox, your rear sight is causing the problem with shots to the left. Why the factory left it like that is troubling! Hope you get it resolved to your liking.

I'm new here. This is my first post/reply. I just got a gun like yours (S&W M&P9C 9mm 4 Compact M2.0 15+1). Hope mine runs OK. I'm looking for a strong-side hip holster (right hand). Can you help me with make and model? Was looking for a Safariland but did not see this model! Guess this model is too new. Any options, much appreciated.

Good luck and good shooting.

If it only jams when you rack the first round it sounds like you may not be cycling it fully. I will say when I first cycled the slide on mine it felt like it had 2 stages to the guide rod spring. It loosened up after a couple hundred rounds.

I bought a right pusher from Amazon since I may need it to install the night sight anyway. It hit where I aim after adjusting the rear sight at the range.

I carefully racked the slide after each reload, and no jam at all. Maybe it was not it, it was just me.

Sorry about the late reply, I was out of town for a business trip for a while.

I bought two holsters. One is the Blade-Tech Total Eclipse, and the other is De Santis Invader. I picked the Blade-Tech Total Eclipse because it is totally convertible. Right side, left side, IWB, or OWB, which ever way you want it. I picked the De Santis Invader because it uses neoprene and two clips spread the weight around.

Since I only wear them for a couple of days total, I could not comment on their pros and cons. You should search for other threads about the proper holsters.

Regards,

It functioned properly for the last 200 rounds. Hope it just was user error.

Glad you got yours running OK. I just bought a 2.0 compacts & really like it. I put 250 rounds thru it with no malfunctions. It feels early good in my hand. I bought a Galco Concealable. It carries real good in that.

Well, I think we can surmise that S&W checks out the striker block safety when an M&P is sent in with a broken striker. That's the only reason I can think of as to why they would have fiddled with the rear sight.
