Held it at the NRA show this past weekend. Hard to tell the difference between it and the 4.0" compact. I think it is intended for the appendix carry people. Kahr did a similar thing making a P9 grip size with a PM9 (Short) slide.

Are they coming out with something that can compete with the p365 in the same size and 10 rounds ?

Sorry, the 4" barreled 12 rounder and the Shield with the 10 round mag were just wishful thinking on my part.

Well, time heals wounds, as the saying goes. Several years ago, S&W was running a rebate program for their M&P line that was $50 back or 2 free magazines. During rebate period, I ended up buying 5 M&P models, IIRC. Anyway, I was due 10 magazines. It didn't run any better then than this one has...people who submitted their rebate requests long after me were getting their magazines. I started calling CS, and calling them, and it was always one thing after another...out of stock, warranty needs were filled ahead of the rebate program, etc. Meanwhile, others were still getting their magazines. This went on for ONE YEAR...I kid you not. I finally started trying to get in contact with the executives of the company...having worked for a Fortune 100 company, I knew how executive complaints were received. Interestingly, while you can find out WHO the senior executives are (publicly traded companies have to list their officers) the contact info was not available. I spoke to supervisors and managers who said they could refer my complaint upward, but they could not give me the number.

Finally, one of my internet searched revealed the name and number of the VP of Finance of a holding company that was affiliated with S&W. I called her, figuring at most she might tell me it wasn't her area. Not only did she answer her own phone, she listened to my issue, took notes, and promised to call me back. She did call me back, and gave me the name and number of a senior manager in the gun company who was going to call me, and told me if I didn't hear from him within 24 hours to call her back. I did get a call from him, he apologized profusely, and sent me 14 magazines. Yeah, I probably could have asked for more stuff or have been a you-know-what about it, but after spending 30 years in management at a very large company, I know how things can go wrong...anyway, I got my magazines.

I've continued to buy S&W guns because they are good guns. Their rebate programs are poorly administered, but that has nothing to do with the quality of their guns or their warranty of said guns.

Never say never...it just means you have to end up eating your own words.

I'll have to try that if I ever need to creative when carrying.

They would put out a gun in between the sizes I have already! I have a 1.0 9mm shield and a 2.0 9mm 4.25" full size. So it's just under 3/4" shorter than my FS and just under 3/4" longer than my shield. I can't justify it as much as I would love one. Is the frame of this gun the compact frame just with a .4" shorter barrel? If I had just started buying guns I think I would buy the 4.25" FDE with night sights and this gun (in the same configuration if they offered it).

This is the first time I have seen this,so if I understand correctly, this is the new M&P compact 9, but a new version with a slightly shorter barrel?
I personally see nothing wrong with this concept for a defensive pistol. The barrell length difference between a Glock 26 and a Glock 19 does not change the external ballistics to a degree that would make any difference at all in on target effectiveness, with any of the better 9mm loads, or actually any 9mm load for that matter. I've chronoed all of these loads and found that there is only a few FPS difference in velocity, and the G26 actually ran some loads faster than the G19.(notably the 124gr. +P Gold Dot).

I believe this will also hold true for the 4/10ths shorter barrel of this new pistol.
I smacked my head when Glock gave us the 19X a short time ago thinking as a lot of people have that this was just the opposite of what they should have done. After handling and shooting one that was purchased by one of our County Police officers my opinion made a 360 degree turn!
If you think the slightly shorter barrel doesn't make any difference in draw speed using the scoop draw from concealment or in open carry, then you need to try it for yourself under a timer.
The only M&P's I currently own are Shields,2 9mm's and the .45 which is my daily carry. I for one am quite interested in this pistol now, with a 15 round capacity, and I'm sure the spacers for the 17 round mags will be included, just as they are with the 4n inch compact.
I wouldn't argue with any conflicting opinions as we all like and need different things, but for my own personal use this is one I want to investigate further.

Arrow My first S&W in centerfire in over 25 years

Other than rimfire I gave up on Smiths after they discontinued the alum frame semi pistols.
Then they came out with this model...ok I was interested as it pushed all my buttons.
Got it today...my take.
Grip...I like it a lot. Aggressive for a positive hold.
Capacity...I don't carry a spare mag so I like the 16 round capacity.
Looks...it is a nice looking gun...well built...steel sights
Price...within reason
If it wasn't raining I'd give a range report...maybe latter.
So far no regrets.

I do not understand the issue with how horrible the compact is to comceal due to grip length.

I placed the new 2.0- 9c on this he glass countertop at a gunshop side by side with the shield 2.0 with 8 round mag. They were for all practical purposes the EXACT same height! EXACT.

Almost no one has complained and the massive success of concealing the shield!

So why exactly would this new 9c of exactly the same grip height suddenly cause this model to be so horrible to conceal!

Also one of the all time most successful guns, the G-19 has also about the exact same height. And few people seem to have issues concealing it!

What exactly is so completely unique about this 3.6” 2.0-9c that is so difficult to conceal compared to the G19???

I carry the shield with 8 round mag and installed pinky grip extensions for the shield 7 round mags. Again exact same overall height! Other than the shield being thinner and lighter, if the grip length is “the” critical element, how is it different?

To me having a 0.5” additional sight radius, alnog with almost double capacity, and even the added weight would tame recoil even more for quicker follow up shots, how is this anything but an upgrade?

I don’t plan to get rid of my shield. I will keep that for “deep conceal” and maybe summer time, and carry the higher capacity 9c any other time. Identical battery of arms and sights and sight picture. I cannot think of a better duo combination for CCW.

The whole concealability thing is highly variable for people.
It depends on body type, clothing style, and holster type.

In my case, it ain't the grip that tries to print.
I've carried a full-sized 1911 for several years, I've carried a Glock 17 intermittently for several years, I've carried a full-sized Smith M&P .40 for about four years, and I've been carrying a Glock 19X recently, all with full-length grips & all concealed.

I've carried full-sized autos for 30 years, concealed.

The two parts of these guns that I have to concern myself with are the barrel length (tries to occasionally expose itself from under the un-tucked shirt or short jacket when I reach or bend over), and the back end of the SLIDE that tries to print under the shirt.

The grip has NEVER been a problem, with my body & the holsters I use.
This 3.6 compact is, for me & my lifestyle, probably THE perfect carry pistol configuration.

In dropping down to a 9mm going forward, it has a grip that perfectly fits my hand.
It stays locked into my hand.
It has excellent onboard capacity, and I don't need (or want) to go any lower with a thinner single-stack.
Decent trigger, good steel sights.
Barrel is short enough to help stay under my shirt without dropping down further to something like a Glock 26, or shortening the grip any further & sacrificing full-grip control.

This thing is maybe an eighth of an inch less in height and approximately a quarter-inch shorter than the .380 EZ here at the moment.
Obviously not quite as thin, but 16 rounds of 9mm vs 9 rounds of .380 ACP.

If you choose the right holster, it can be very concealable.
Range time will determine, but if it shoots well, it'll be my next carry pistol.

I have no idea why S&W did the intermediate-length 2.0 Compact first, instead of just going from full-length to this length, but I'm glad they did this one at whatever stage of their marketing plan it falls into.

That's what I was thinking, too - I just noticed this had come out. I'd like a full size grip but not too long a snout, and this is nicely proportioned, aesthetically. Reminds me of the Ruger P93 and P94, same guns, different barrel lengths.

Range report

For me at 25 feet it isn't as accurate as my Sig P320
Shot both today and the Sig shot tighter like 2-3 inch groups vs the S&W 2.0 compacts 3-4 inch groups.
Then I went from 115 grain to 124 grain NATO and the pistol came alive .

It began to shoot 2-3 inch groups...it definitely liked the NATO 124 Grain PPU Prvi Partizan Ammo - .
The Federal 124 hst and 124 hst plus p .....were about 3-4 inch groups at 30 feet off hand controled rapid fire .
It isn't the most accurate pistol I own but it will do for ccw.

I didn't feel like waiting so I made my own 4" barrel 2.0 and 12 round grip. Used an original 9C tool to fit the shape better.

Nice! Is the tool designed so you could shave the back of it at an angle to create a bobtail for less printing through clothing?
