Default M&P 357

I woke up this morning and decided to cruise my local gun forum classifieds (never a good idea), and came across what I figured to be a pretty good deal.

Gentleman was offering his full size M&P chambered in the lovely .357 Sig. I’ve always been a huge fan of the round, but I’ve never been too keen on the M&P series, mostly because my polymer wants were always served by Glock. However, I know that the M&P is a solid pistol, so I figured it’s time that I gave one a shot.

I sent him a message, and we were both free for the day to meet up at the FFL to do a transfer. I’m surprised no one got to it before me, he had already bumped the listing once.

I got...
The gun
3 magazines
Trijicon Night sights
All 3 factory backstraps
A Crimson Trace red lasergrip

All for $300

Now for the pictures. He said it was his nightstand gun, and it appears new.

Congratulations on a superb deal

While not a huge fan of polymer, striker fired pistols, the M&P does fit my hand and the several that I have shot all shoot well

Now you need a compact to go with it

If I can find one for a similar price I would definitely grab it.

I love the .357 Sig round and have the compact version. It's very accurate for me and quite easy to control. I also paid $300 in the box. Liked it so much I bought another for $325 and gave it to my Dad. I've considered purchasing a Sig pistol chambered for the .357 but haven't thus far. Good deals can be had for this caliber probably due to ammo cost but it costs no more than other calibers to reload and I do so it works for me.

Your price is outstanding given the goodies that came with it!

Interestingly, I realized it after I picked it up and was in the car that the trigger was dead when I pulled it, the firing pin wouldn’t drop. Hmmm. Put the mag in and then it worked.

Funny because even after working in a gun shop for 2 years in college, I never realized that the M&P’s came with an optional magazine disconnect. I know all the third gens came standard with it, but I had never seen what I guess is a “gen 1” M&P pistol. Every one I ever saw in the shop, new or used would fire with no magazine, and had “pistol will fire with magazine removed” printed on the right side of the slide. Mine obviously doesn’t have that warning.

Learn something new every day, I thought it was broken at first. For the price I don’t care if it has the disconnect or not.

Ah.... Mine have the disconnect. It’s real easy to remove if you wish. Just have to replace a spring. Plenty of YT vids on it.

That's pretty cool. We don't see too many M&P's in 357 Sig

Mine's a compact, too.
$300 LEO trade-in that turned out to be NIB.
Must have been the chief's gun.

You should be able to just swap out the barrel and shoot .40 S&W too.

Mine don't have the magazine disconnect but of course my 3rd gens do. It doesn't really matter to me either way even thinking about self defense. It means more to others though and to each their own...both have their appeal.

Are they really that rare? I know they only made them for commercial sales for a few years when they first came out but I figured there’s still thousands of them out there.

The test fire casing envelope that came with it says March 2008.

To the OP:
Betcha it won't be the last M&P you buy. These things are like tater chips; one seems to always lead to another.

Sounds to me like the OP paid for crimson trace grips and night sights and those came with a free pistol and three magazines. Nice snag.

Quite a deal. I happen to like the magazine disconnector, so that is no drawback to me.

I have a .357 M&P, too. It is the most accurate small-caliber M&P I’ve been around, but I’d say it’s a little loud for a “nightstand gun.”

Congrats! - and enjoy your new M&P.

I found a M&P 40c and found a 357Sig barrel for it. A few months later I found a full size M&P 357Sig with a 40S&W barrel. I love how versatile the 357Sig cartridge is. I only wish that it was more popular.

That would be disappointing for me. I would remove the magazine disconnect.

I am looking for another Glock 32, 32, and M&P 357. I may be looking for awhile.

Looks as if we have a crime problem here. Guys are stealing M&P's in .357 SIG. They're even making off with extra goodies. Shameful.
