M&P .22 Compact Mag Release
I keep releasing the mag by accident. The button has very little resistance. I also have a Shield and the spring looks the same but is much stiffer. Does anyone know if a Shield spring would fit a Compact?

that's actually a good question, will be curious to see the results.
I too on occasion have hit the release on my compact .22, at least did when i first got it. A slight tweak to my grip when using that one solved it, but if a spring change would work i could see that being a solid option to try out

I don't know. What I do know is that when the button was for a right handed shooter I never got an accidental release. I am a left handed shooter and recently switched the button over. I have since had two accidental mag releases as I hit the button now with my left thumb. I have changed my grip and that has seemed to help.

I'm considering ordering a new mag release from S&W, then modifying the one that's in the gun. Maybe trimming the button down a little so it not so proud of the frame. If I do and this works I'll post my results here.

The trimming was not the best option so I took a piece of 1/8" thick sheet plastic (hobby store) and cut a thin strip to go just above the mag button. This was a bout 1/8 inch wide as well. I used the mounting strip for the "Command" type hooks and picture hangers found in many stores. With the command mounting strip I mounted the "shelf" or thumb rest as needed and painted it flat black. I just made a rough model and it seems to work well. The rest can be shaped for comfort. I'll continue to use this until it fails or I come up with a better solution. It does work to keep my thumb off the mag release and does not interfere with shooting. It may not look exactly factory but close. We do what works don't we. The nice thing about this mount it can be removed without a trace.

The last thing I said was it could be removed without a trace. And it WAS!! I decided for my usage I would reverse the button and just deal with it. I only have to tilt the gun a little and use my strong hand index finger to release the mag. I now can use my favorite grip and not contact the button at all. Simple is sometimes best. I did have fun fooling around with it though.
By the way, I also would be interested in the spring question posted above.
