I put off getting a 45 for a year and had pretty much settled on a M & P Shield. Today, I went to the S & W site to take another gander at them and when I clicked on the spot that said M & P 45 Shield Featured, it took me to the M & P Shield M2.0 pistols but they were only shown in 9mm and 40?

I have a 9mm Shield and like it very much - that's a lot to say for coming from an "old revolver guy".

Is Smith still making the Shield in 45 Cal? I've noticed a number of them at several of the listings of my LGS that are used - which leads me to ask why? I looked at Buds and they have some listed .. . so why aren't they shown on Smith's site along with the 9s and 40s. Were there any issues with the 45 Shield that would tend to point a person in another direction?

I like my 9mm Shield and will be adding one of the Shield .380 EZ as I cast and reload and it's just going to be a "fun gun" for plinking. I wanted to add a 45 as well but now am a little confused as to why they aren't on Smith's site - unless old age had confused me to the point that I can't find the right spot on their site! LOL

I have two of the S&W45 Shields, one since shortly after they were first released and the other bought late last year when the vendors were reducing their prices because of high inventory and the S&W rebate was offered. Both have been very satisfactory. There were some reported problems with the magazine followers in some that seem to have been satisfactorily addressed by replacement shell followers from S&W for the mags. I have had no issues with either of mine at all.
I am very pleased all around after well over a thousand rounds through each and I can personally see no reason why you should not like the gun as far as function and firing is concerned. The recoil for me is only very slightly more than my Shield9MM and it is entirely acceptable. Whether you like the gun for your own use will be up to you, but if you like the 9MM, I think you will also like the 45. I am an old revolver guy myself and my 45 has been my EDC since I bought the first one. I like the grip treatment on the 45 much better than the slicker grip surface on the 9. Can't tell you about not finding one on the S&W site except I feel like it is still there and definitely still available. You should be able to find them for sale on line for reasonable prices as well from several different vendors. Good luck with your search.

I bought a Shield 45 when they first came out, and it has all the features that are incorporated into the 2.0 models...it just wasn't labeled as a 2.0. I saw a picture here recently of a Shield 45 that had the 2.0 designation on the slide, but the features are all still the same. As far as I know, if you buy a Shield 45, whether it's designated a 2.0 or not, you will get the most recent update of the gun.

I have bought and sold around 30 pistols in as many years, including a 9 and 40 Shield, but this one gun I can’t part with. I told a buddy on two occasions that I would sell it to him but balked at the last minute. That tells me something. The 45 is a little bigger and heavier than the 9 and 40 but it’s a sweet shooter and the most accurate for me. Get one, you’ll love it.

Don't even hesitate; that 45 Shield is the perfect little self defense firearm with a big punch. And like all the M&P's it's ergonomically superior, with curves that fit a man's hand like a woman's body. With those beautiful signature waves cut into the slide; it all adds up to a powerful package and best of all made right here in the USA.

This information is correct. I like my 45 Shield so much I bought a second...

I have shot half a box of Critical Duty +P through mine. It functioned flawlessly. My recoil spring assemble did break a couple of weeks ago after a day shooting 300 standard pressure rounds. I can’t attribute it to any particular round. It may have just broke like other shield RSA’s, but I thought i’d Mention it. Interesting, it shot great at the range, I didn’t know it had broke until I got home and cleaned the gun.

Tons of it. I ONLY shoot +P defence ammo. Why not get more bang for the buck? I shoot the hottest of hot loads out there in all my guns. If they wear out, toss them and buy a new one. These guns are not that expensive and are easy to come by. They will last for years either way. Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk

My .45 Shield has replaced my 9mm Shield as my pocket carry. It's a great gun: easy to shoot, reliable, accurate.

I wondered about the lack of 2.0 on the frame; did some research (mainly crying HELP! here) and checked with S&W and indeed, all the Shield .45s are "2.0." Smith took the improvements in the .45 and applied them to the 9 and 40 and that's how they got to the 2.0 on those two guns.

Don't hesitate for a minute about getting one. But, your 9 will get dusty in the safe as there it will stay.

I think the Shield 45 is the best of the Shield line. Mine has been accurate and flawless. Admittedly, I did a lot of work with it. I have run some +P through it and do carry +P. Not a steady diet but just enough to feel comfortable with it.

I got the Shield in .45 when it first was released. I liked it so much I sold my Shield in 9MM .
I carry most every day in all sorts of conditions and weather. The Shield .45 is still my favorite EDC and has never given me anything other than perfect service. Just a great little pistol feeding an excellent close range defense round.
