M&P 22 Compact Threaded Barrel
I'm trying to buy an M&P 22 Compact without a threaded barrel.
But, my dealer can't seem to locate a non-threaded version. Should I have to settle for getting one with a threaded barrel, does anyone know if I need to keep the adapter screwed for regular use? I just hate the way the adapter looks and would prefer not to use it. Would it harm the gun if I leave it out?

They all have threaded barrels. It’s the adaptor that protrudes past the slide. Mine did not come with the adaptor. It just has a thread protector instead. I think that’s what you are looking for.

Typically they ship with thread protectors pre-installed. If yours doesn’t, call S&W. I’d bet you a brick of 550 Federal they’d send you one for free.

Yes - what Barbasnoo says - call S&W and ask them - they will want the serial number but they shipped mine for free. Then it is much easier to disassemble the pistol ...

This is with the thread protector installed. I’ve never removed it because I don’t possess the correct tool and there is no need to.

Thanks for the picture! But, I'm a bit confused by your statement. Did you buy the EWK protector and install it, now it can't be removed without a special tool? Or, did you purchase a standard M&P 22 Compact (without the threaded barrel adapter)? See the photo of one I purchased.

Mine had the thread protector from the factory. It did not come with the very thin wrench that fits it. I believe that if you by one that has the adaptor on it they include a wrench. The adaptor must be removed to field strip the pistol. The thread protector does not.

FYI, I purchased the Compact with a threaded adaptor. Then called S&W and requested a thread protector cap. They say its in the mail. Looks like the problem is solved.

Received the Barrel Thread Protector directly from S&W
I was able to replace the Suppressor Adaptor with a Barrel Thread Protector ordered from S&W. Part Number 429020000. Thank you to all who helped me with this.
See images to see the transformation.

To clear up any confusion in the thread... The standard Compact 22 comes with the thread protector installed by S&W. If you order specifying suppressor adapter then that is what comes screwed onto the barrel. I have to check the thread protector each time I clean the Compact 22 to insure it's tight. Mine tends to losen slightly after a range session (about 100 rounds).
