Shot my friends 2.0 compact 4" 9mm ...... and absolutely amazed how great that gun is! Carry a Glock 9mm for about 25 years now. Gen2/3/4/5. Definitely will be buying an M&P 2.0 9mm. Have few questions. I got confused my factory website. I like 4" compact model with std sights and no safety . Do they make a Performance Center gun in that configuration ? If You were to buy an M&P 2.0 9mm , what model would get and why ? How do they hold up long term comparing to a Glock 9mm ? Does anyone make aftermarket sights for 2.0 ? Thank You.

I couldn't find a Performance Center M&P 2.0 9mm Compact on the S&W website. It's relatively new on the market, so one may be coming later.

I just bought a M&P 2.0 Compact 9mm with a 4" barrel. There is a model with a 3.6" barrel, which I thought I would get, but couldn't find one (I didn't check all the online retailers, just Gun Genie and several local shops) so I went ahead and bought the 4" model. I figured that 0.4" isn't that big a difference, and I wanted to go ahead and get one now. My LGS had both the thumb safety model and the no safety model...I checked them both out, and ended up buying the TS model, which I got just because of personal preference.

The M&P series has been very reliable, so I'm going to say it should perform and last very comparably to a Glock. Glocks just aren't comfortable in my small hands, but the grip on the 2.0 models works very well for me...and the trigger is very good, IMO. I haven't shot mine yet, due to some health issues, but with handling and dry firing it, I really like it. I've read many other good reports on this gun.

There are aftermarket sights available, so you can check a couple of threads here for comments on those. I probably will eventually put night sights on mine, but I'm in no rush on that.

I have handled them several times and have seen about every test done on the internet on the new 2.0 compact which is about identical to the Glock 19 in size. Ergo's are better IMO and I believe it will be every bit as reliable from tests that have been done on it. The 2.0 trigger is much improved over the 1.0 but the very best is to put the new Apex flat Trigger called the Flatty in it. There are night sights available for it with more on the way. The full size model is only 1/4" longer in the barrel and the grip is a little longer as well. Handle both of them and see which one feels better in your hand since the difference in size is minimal.

As I understand it, Glocks come with a one year warranty. Smith & Wesson stands behind their product for a LIFETIME. I think this says a lot about the expectations of the manufacturers about the 'long term' experience for the consumer.

I have Trijicon HD's on mine. Most after market sight makers provide sights for the M&Ps. Trijicon, Ameriglo, etc take your pick.

I've got the 2.0 in the full-size 9mm flavor and liked it so well I went with the 2.0 in a .45 compact. Both shoot great, both fit my hand just right and neither has had as much as a hiccup with FMJ or self-defense ammo.

Typically I add Dawson Fiber Optic front sights and leave the rear stock.

I had a souped-up, tricked-out Model 19 Glock for about one box of ammo and it got traded (for a S&W Model 29-2 of all things -- a guy really wanted that model 19!). I didn't like that gun at all, not the trigger, the grip or anything about it.

You won't go wrong with an M&P....I've got 3 Shields (.380EZ, 9 and .45) and the two aforementioned 2.0s. I also have an M&P that shoots .38 special, but it has a cylinder and only hold six shots.

My 1.0 M&P 40 Compact just passed 12,000 rounds. After nearly 10,000 rounds of flawless performance, it started to develop intermittent failures to fire. S&W took it back and completely rebuilt it free of charge. They even paid for shipping. It is now working perfectly again. So you need not worry about longevity. S&W stands behind its products for as long as you own them.

So go buy one!

What, me worry?

Having dealt w/Glock and S&W customer service (CS) I’d go with Smith. Glock CS people have an attitude of “our guns don’t malfunction” while Smith bends over backwards for you. I was seriously considering an M&P but wound up w/a Gen 4 Glock 17 only b/c it was a Talo, came new with Amerigo sights and was only $443 OTD. Besides, my former department will fix any Glock even if a retiree asks.

I stopped carrying my 19 after 5 years and now carry my 2.0 compact exclusively. I don’t plan on selling my 19 but haven’t shot it since. It is just such a better feeling gun in the hand and a much more natural shooter. Only thing I have changed and plan to change is the sights. Well other than a little modification on the left side of the grip where it was rubbing me raw when carrying. Now though it’s as close to perfect as I’ve found.

I still have a Gen 4 Glock 19 that I really tried to like. But there is something about the shape of my hands that results in the 19 hitting the knuckle of my thumb. I bought a 2.0 compact with the 4 inch barrel because it duplicates the form factor and capacity of the Glock with better ergonomics. Standard sights and no safety.

I only have about 1000 rounds through mine so I cannot say how it holds up long term from personal experience. From what I read here and elsewhere if you want a gun that will go 50,000 rounds without anything breaking Glock is still the gun to get. The M&P is a durable gun, I wouldn't have bought one if I did not believe that. S&W stands behind their product and will fix it if anything breaks but I want a gun that doesn't break, not one that the company will fix. The 2.0 guns have a little more metal in the frame to reduce flexing and there might be other changes that could increase durability but they have not been out long enough to know. I don't shoot 20,000 rounds a year so the M&P is more than durable enough for me even if Glocks are better.

While I think Glocks are more durable my M&P has been every bit as reliable as my Glock 19 and that seems to be the case for most people.

The 2.0 guns have the same dovetails as the previous M&Ps so there are lots of choices when it comes to sights. I am trying a set of XS Big dots on mine to see how I like them. Check the Brownells or Midway websites to get an idea of what is available.

While there are plenty of sights available for M&Ps I could not find a sight pusher made specifically for M&Ps that holds the slide like the frame does. I borrowed a tool like that for my Glock when I swapped the sights and it made the process a lot easier than the generic sight pusher I used on my M&P. If you have a gunsmith install the sights or are OK with putting the slide in a vice and using a hammer and punch to remove the sights it doesn't matter.

I have had my Glock for many years. I guess it would be a Gen 1.
Never a problem, and it is a pleasure to shoot. Much easier to field strip then the M&P. That being said I own 1 Glock and 3 M&P's. I have gotten into the habit of pocket carrying my M&P 9 compact, by that I mean everyday.

I think I will go with a compact too. It's feels good in my hands and has a 4" barrel. Like my glock 19

I used to carry a G27 for approximately 15 years on my ankle and or IWB. About 3 years ago I bought the M&P Shield in 9mm. Personally love the ergonomics and the overall feel of the m&p line. Also bought a first generation M&P in. 357Sig several years before the Shield.

Or, as I was reminded in another thread, you can send the slide to a sight maker, like Novak, for one example, and they will install the sights for you. I don't know if S&W will do that, but a call to them could get you an answer.

I just recently did the same thing. I have been carrying various Glocks, both on duty and off duty, at my PD job for ~25 years. After several instances of absolutely horrid customer service over the years, I started looking for something to replace them. I always loved the ergonomics of the M&P line, but the older ones had such bad triggers that I never got one (we aren't allowed to do internal mods that aren't factory approved, so Apex-ing an M&P was out). A friend brought a 9mm Shield to the range for qualifications right after they came out and let me shoot it. I bought the first one I could find (took a while, they were VERY hard to find) and bingo, Glock 26 replaced. Still carry it off duty to this day and, in fact, have it on my hip as I type.

When S&W announced the M&P 2.0, I was VERY interested, especially after finding out about the improved trigger. I scraped up the money and bought one a full sized 9mm couple months ago. After the first trip to the range, I bought a duty holster for it and am currently waiting on someone to be able to take me to the range to qualify with it. When I do, the only Glock I will have left for carry is my Glock 42. I have large hands and an LCP is too small and I just can't stand the HEAVY trigger on the Bodyguard .380. Are you listening, S&W? Come out with a Bodyguard 2.0 and, preferably, make it striker fired, or at least with a lighter trigger, and I will buy the first one I can find and be Glock free.

And, before you ask, the triggers on the 2.0 M&Ps are VASTLY improved over the 1.0s I have tried. The take up on my 2.0 started out gritty, but that has gone away with use and cleaning. The take up is smooth, you hit a well defined wall and get to a pretty crisp, reasonably light break. Not 1911 crisp, but very good for a striker fired gun. The trigger reset is audible and tactile and, to me, feels very Glock like, making for an easy transition from Glocks. The ergonomics are outstanding and the gun fits my hand VERY well. I think it is a worthwhile transition to make. Good luck with your decision.

All said, Glock remains the standard for reliability and popularity, so there's that for what it's worth. Personally, I have no issues with Glocks except for that Luger grip angle.

Sights can be changed, custom work can be paid for, etc, etc. In the end, for me, it's ergonomics and the 1911 fit and feel brings it home every time. As great as Glocks are, I'll buy a CZ-75, a Browning HP, or a Colt 1911 before any Glock. And that's why I like the M&P, specifically the Shield-9 and the 2.0 Comact-9.

INtereswtingly, I took my wife to the range for her first time shooting a gun and I rented her the G-43 because she had heard all the good stuff about Glock. That pistol was up against my new Shield-9 V1. She liked the G-43 better not because she shot better, but because she simply could not operate the slide on the Shield as easily. She could just barely run the Glock as well. Incidently, she out shot Ol' John Wayne here with both guns. They say that's typical with women...

On the subject of longevity, alot of M&P's are getting long in the tooth, but actual wear-out is not being widely reported in any of the variants that I've ever read about. In any case, the parts for any of these plastic wackers are pretty cheap. I wouldn't be concerned about shooting a S&W 2.0C out of tolerance any time soon.

I'm a long time Glock fan. Reading about how great the M&P 9mm 2.0 Compact was, I got one. While I appreciate the ergos of the M&P, I can't imagine how anyone can say the M&P is better than the Glock 19. Or, 17. I like gen 4 Glocks. The smaller grip area of the gen 4, is very satisfying.

The trigger on my M&P is very gritty. Getting to the firing pin (striker) safety is arduous. A vise, a punch and a hammer is required. Not so with a Glock . . . any generation of Glock. I'm not trading the M&P until I get some more rounds through it. Maybe the trigger can be helped with after market parts? I'm thinking Apex. Sure cost more than a connector fix for a Glock. Then again, the M&P 2.0 costs less than a new Glock 19.

This is nonsense. We have multiple members here who have received outstanding warranty work from S&W. I've only had to use S&W customer service once, and I found it very easy to get someone on the phone almost immediately, who then offered to solve my problem without hesitation. They even paid for overnight shipping which was a total surprise.

You might want to look at Warren Tactical sights as well. I put them on my 2.0 and they hit point of aim at 25 yards just like they advertise.
