Default Gonna try to CC a 5”....

I just ordered a Crossbreed Supertuck and I’m going to try to conceal carry a 5” M&P 2.0 9mm for the next month.

Over the past year I’ve CC a J frame 637, a Shield 9 and most recent a 6906. With the heavier 6906 I realized that the larger gun really didn’t bother me at all. However using a quality holster is important.

I’ve heard of plenty of people carrying 1911 IWB with no issues, I’m hoping the same results with the 5” M&P.

Anyone here have any experience carrying the big M&P?

I carry my 4.6” 2.0 .45 sometimes in a Crossbreed Supertuck. No problem with the right cover garment. It is noticeable heavier than my Shield though.

I am fixated on carrying AIWB for safety, concealability, speed and comfort. I assume the Supertuck is a behind the hip holster. My comments may not apply.

I am 5’ 11” @ 185# and carry the standard 4.25” full size 9mm M&P with an aftermarket Apex threaded barrel. That adds a half inch (Total 4.75”). I find almost no problem carrying it AIWB on a Wilderness Tactical 1.5” belt in a good Kydex holster made for that length barrel. Only on long drives (4+ hours) do I need to either remove it for a while or at least have two good 20 minute breaks. I carry a spare 23-round mag at 10 o’clock.

Bigger guns shoot easier than smaller ones. Generally less perceived recoil and more consistent accuracy. I also like capacity for self defense.

However, I believe there is a point of diminishing returns in trying to carry larger guns concealed. Both weight and size can come into play, depending on your body size and condition, carry accessories and carry position. I know of people who claim to carry Glock 35’s AIWB. They may do it, but I doubt it is as comfortable as a shorter gun.

I personally would not buy a 5” M&P to carry anywhere concealed, but you may be different. I prefer the extended barrel with the shorter frame. It balances well, shoots great, is a little lighter, and down low in the carry position it is smaller. I also have an RMR 06 milled into my slide, so my iron sights are both tall to cowitness. If I had a 5” it would make that end of the gun even taller, taking up more space down low concealed. A longer framed gun is also harder to clear from a holster, especially if carried behind the hip.

The gun below is close, but if you are not putting on a suppressor or a red dot sight, you don’t need the taller sights. The difference between the factory 4.6” barrel and my 4.75” is neglible, except mine is gunsmith fit and will likely outshoot a factory tolerance barrel, if that matters.

Thanks for the input. Good info.

I wouldn’t go out and buy one to CC either but since I already own the 9L I might as well try it. I don’t carry appendix so no worries there.

I found an older M&P holster. I dremeled our the muzzle end and carried it a few hours, actually a little less. Wasn’t bad at all. Certainly know it’s there’s though.

I often carry my full size 9 in a palm-out, small-of-back holster. Usually stick with the Shield, though.

I carried a MP 45 Midsize for 5 years in a now discontinued BladeTech lured IWB holster at the 5 o’clock position. I still carry it in the winter. Heavy but easy to cc with IWB.

It’s not bad at all. I carry at 4:30 and the only issue I have is while driving I can feel the muzzle bottoming out on my cars seat. Oh and the rough stippling on the 2.0 is a bit tough but a rubberized Hogue grip fixed that.

I’m actually liking it. May go all in on the holster and have one made up for me.

I haven't carried a a full size M & P but has you mentioned, I have carried a full size 1911 and with the right holster and belt, there wasn't an issue. Because of the weight, I very seldom forgot that it was ridding at 4 o'clock but it was comforting as they say. My M & P Compact doescarry a little easier.

I sometimes carry my 5" in a Comp-Tac MTac (similar to Crossbreed) with zero problems. The right belt and holster combo can make carrying full-size guns very manageable.
