It wouldn't change my opinion at all. Large agencies buy tools based on lots of criteria, but in the end, it's money that's the deciding factor. One company could have the most accurate, reliable gun ever made, but if the next on the list is almost as good and 15% less money, they're buying the second one every time.

Now, if you told me that part of their minimum salient characteristics was that the gun shoot a 1" group at 50 yards and they chose the smaller gun, that would make me take notice.

Well, I will say this. When HK wins the contract over Glock, that pretty much ensures the whole "lowest bidder" thing is bs.

Why a shorter barrel? Ask a fan of snub nosed revolvers!

It's a lot closer in size to the G26 than I had thought. I like it.

Size-wise it actually competes with the G26 very well (see post #55). It's only ever so slightly larger, yet holds 15 rounds in a magazine versus the G26s 10.

I like it! Will pick one up in .40. Glad S&W is still offering .40 in new guns.

How does this compare to the size of the shield? I’ve been looking at the 2.0 compact, but now I wondering if the 3.6 would be closer to the size of my shield.

Shield of course is a single-stack while the 2.0 3.6" is a double-stack, so it's considerably thicker overall.

I won't be getting rid of my G26 anytime soon, but I think the 2.0 3.6" is a well thought out, well equipped, highly competitive, attractive package.

You know, S&W corporate typically makes such model decisions based upon current marketing surveys and study groups on which they spend a lot of money.

In the past, the shorter grip/longer slide and longer grip/shorter slide combinations both had their proponents. If one perspective has been demonstrated to have more demand/appeal in recent months, then that's likely what's going to get the nod.

If it doesn't sell well, or the vagaries of the fickle commercial consumer market don't buy it in sufficient numbers in coming months, then you can bet another model will replace it.

Where is the best price?

Best I have found is $450 for the 3.6” no safety.

From what I'm seeing retail, $450 is looking like a good price right now.

Interesting carry.
I'd wear holes right through if I sat on that gun that way.
I develop the "Wallet Outline" fairly quick in Levis if I don't alternate between both rear pockets.

why? simple. It will sell.

why are there 5 different glocks in 9mm? simple...they will sell.

the gun public is a fickle sort. we want unlimited choices. If Smith doesn't offer it, someone else will.

Finally, after a 6-week downtime during two post-op recoveries, got to the range with the 3.6 here.

I'm sorry to disappoint those who don't want S&W to produce the pistol, but I still LIKE it.

Very easy shooter, very good ergonomics, no malfunctions out of the box (with no lube or prep) using six different loads, two 115s, two 124s, two 147s, and three different bullet profiles.

It is a keeper.
I have the M&P9 2.0, 2.0 Compact 4-inch, and 2.0 Compact 3.6-inch.
The 3.6 is the best concealer for me.

I don't own a 3.6 compact but I will add my 2 cents. I have shot a lot with a Glock 26 and what I noticed over a Glock 19 is the slide and sights track faster with the 26 versus the 19. Its just a consequence of a lighter slide and shorter sight radius. I think the 3.6 inch compact should follow a similar behavior as the Glock 26 just with more bullets and some added leverage of the fuller grip.

I acquired the controversial 3.6 inch M&P 2.0 compact. I only shot 50 rounds today due to time constraints but I did not have any issues.

The 2.0 grip texture creates a healthy amount of friction. Combine that with the fast cycling slide of the 3.6 and we have a flat and quick cycling pistol. I really liked the way this gun balances and behaves during recoil and recovery.
It was every bit as accurate as any Glock I own. In which, I am happy to see S&W did something about the accuracy issues seen with the 1.0.

Nice review. I know exactly what you mean about the tracking with the shorter barrel. No 3.6 versions available locally yet,but I'm on the list for one of the first ones. Congrats on a great pistol choice.

S&W always like guns with big butts (grips) an small tops. They clear the holster faster, sit better in a car or chair and hold more capacity.

Big Bottom Smith's Revolver's with Short Barrels with big cylinders rock.
