Front sights wont stay in
Hello, my first post. I'm a huge fan of the 2.0 line. I have multiple of different calibers. I have a full size in 9 mm and the compact in 9mm as well as others but its these two that are the subject of conversation. I bought ameriglo night sights with the big orange front sight for the full size and trijicon xr night sights with the orange front dot for the compact. The rear sights on both of these guns are fine. They were installed with the mgw tool. The front sights on both however, not so much. The ameriglo front sight began to walk out after about 1000 rounds were put through the gun. You could push it out with your finger. Same scenario for the compact except that had about 3,000 rounds through it when it happened.. It's almost as if the metal gets reshaped from heating up and cooling down. Trijicon is a reputable name so I didn't think that would happen with those but of course it did. Any advice on what's Happening Here? The front sights on both were installed with a punch and a hammer. On the full size model, when it came to installation, I pushed the sight in dry. No lube and no Loctite. On the compact model I used lube (Ballistol) thinking that would keep the metal from deforming. No such luck. I'm going to call Smith and Wesson tomorrow and inquire about how they install their front sights because it seems to work when they do it. I do my best to Londa sight up and make sure it's completely balanced on both sides before I shove the metal in. I don't want to depend on Loctite to keep my sights in because if the metal is deforming, I don't want glue being the only thing that's keeping my sights in my gun.
PS I called ameriglo and they already sent out a new sight which I have since put in the gun and so far, that is staying put, but I haven't shot it enough to test it. I have to call Trijicon tomorrow and do the same process with them. I'm sure they will be accommodating. It's just a frustrating issue when I depend on these guns for my life and protection of my family.

You can use a sharp punch to peen the bottom of the sight in 2-3 places. That will likely solve your problem.

Or any green loctite. Or punch plus green loctite. Or red loctite...lot of excellent and very easy solutions to this problem! Just make sure to mark the windage position of the front sight well before you loctite it in. But I've never had something move out of a loctited dovetail, ever.

Im sending the slide and sight to Trijicon. They're going to install a new one for me for free. I had an informative conversation with one of their Techs an he explained that tolerances can be off by the slightest amount but they have equipment that can either shimmy or press a loose or tight sight. They also mentioned they warranty their work for life. Basically, not all sights produced by the same company may be made equal. It happens. As long as it can be made right and reliable, I'll be happy. Thank you to all who replied.

I apologize for resurrecting an old thread, but seeing that I have a very similiar problem, I was wondering how Trijicon did on your sights. How was the turnaround time? And how are they holding up?
Thanks,
Jay

The post you’re asking about was made as someone’s 7th post. I doubt they’re still tracking this thread.

Hello, I luckily checked in to look at some of the ads and saw your post. My Trijicon sights are working out very well for me. Trijicon has done an excellent job installing them. I will say I have found there is a shelf life on the paint in the front sight. My carry gun has a little under 21,000 rounds at this point. What I have discovered is that every three to five thousand rounds the paint will pop out while Im in the middle of shooting. I get my guns pretty hot when I'm doing my drills so my guess is from the sights heating up and cooling down many times, I guess that just causes some wear to the paint. Just to be very specific, it's only the paint that comes out. The tritium insert stays in and that still works just fine. So believe it or not I am still able to aim with the sights even though the paint is missing. The good news is that Trijicon warranties their sights and their work so every time this has happened I send my slide into Trijicon and they replace them free of charge. Every time my slide comes back the sites are perfectly centered and my sights don't move at all no matter how rough I am on them.

Thanks for the update. I did contact Trijicon and they suggest that I return the sights and get them replaced. Seeing that I purchased them from OpticsPlanet, I went with their exchange policy, so they are on there way back to me.
I'll have to see how they fit and I'd like to have Trijicon install them, so we'll see.
Thanks again,
Jay
While I don't spend a lot of time on this forum (I know, shame on me), I'm pretty sure when you post within a forum section, you can set your notifications to email you immediately when someone updates the post. That way you don't miss anything. Just a suggestion.
