Universal sight tool
Is there a particular sight removal tool that is recommended for the Shield? Don't like using punches.

The best one I know of is a MGW Maryland Gun Works 319 that was made specifically for the Shield.
To my knowledge they have been discontinued but I’ve seen them on EBay.
MGW makes 2 Universal Sight Tools
The Sight Pro and the Range Master which $200 plus $300 plus respectively.
There are cheaper ones out there like the NuStar.
But from my research in M&P Sight Tools the MGW was one of the best ones.

I make one that works quite well on the m&p and costs much less than the MGW. There is a thread at the top of the page in the notable threads index which shows my tool in action. I know. Shameless plug.

I am looking at the one made by the Shameless plug earlier in the post above me. Just by looking at it, I can tell you that it's going to be light years beyond the universals that you will get off of eBay. Trust me, those are nothing but a recycled hunk of metal waiting to happen.

Those tools got their start right here on this forum several years ago. I had made one for myself, being too cheap to buy one. I was showing off my invention and suddenly got requests for me to make more for sale. The rest, as they say, is history. The first models were rather crude by current standard. However, they worked. And were very cost effective. The profits were sufficient to finance some better machinery and allow me to eventually make tools that are “milspec”. The tools that now are the flagships are the third and fifth generation versions. There is a sixth generation on the drawing board that exists in my little brain. Not sure if it’s solving a nonexistent problem or not. Stay tuned....
BTW, you don’t have to buy one of my sight tools. There are others that will do the job, though many are more expensive. Regardless, the notion of beating on ansight containing glass of radioactive gas with a punch and hammer just seems like poor head work. Especially if options are available.

Nice photography for the safety pin sets, but not sure I understand the relevance
Might need one of the Mk V’s for my 1911’s.
Does anyone make a universal sight pusher for rear sights on lever action rifles?

The Mk lll works well on 1911’s. No need to go to the expense of the Mk V. Working on a Mk lll mod for lever actions. Nothing except a couple of dimensional changes.

I have numerous sight tools with the most expensive being the Wheeler. Of the least expensive, the one built by NcStar is hard to beat. Retails for ~$45 and is built like a tank. I know people familiar with that brand name, including me, typically associate it with low quality (I.e. junk). This is the exception, at least for the product I purchased. I've bought various inexpensive tools over the years, some work, some work somewhat. Most use course thread for the sight adjustment. My preference is fine thread, which is what is typically on the higher end tools.
For M&Ps, i have the MGW tools. Never had an issue removing/replacing sights. You have to be careful removing/replacing Shield sights and follow the directions else risk of cracking the slide rail. Had to use my universal on the Shield 45 because the slide was too big for the MGW. They may/may not have corrected the issue by now.

Take a look at the Wheeler Engineering Armorer's Handgun Sight Tool.
It will do a perfect job.....the only catch is the MSRP....$192.99.

I have several sight tools by MGW, Wheeler, Sight-Tool, Glock, etc. Some are universal and some are gun specific. Gun specific requires the least adjustment but are also the most limited in usability. The best one hands down is the Wheeler armorers sight tool. I have used it on everything from S&W, Glock, Sig, CZ, Ruger, Kahr, Walther, and more without a single issue. Still looks new. Paid $160 on Amazon for it. Sold off pretty much every other sight tool I owned.
Also FWIW, I have broken and thrown away a few cheaper off brand universal sight tools, which also tend to mark up your gun's slide. Not even worth the $25-50 they cost. Better off with a punch and a hammer.

Universal sight tool
I see the Wheeler on Amazon for $160.
So far the only sight tool I’ve used was the MGW Glock tool. It’s only used for the rear sight. It worked perfectly.

If I was more than a home tinkerer I'd go for the Wheeler's. I bought a universal off of Ebay. I would have gotten the one from EPJ but I didn't know about it at the time.

My NcStar has done 4 sets of sights and has worked perfectly fine. The only thing is it won't work for the front sights, so you'll have to use punches or find something else for that. Brass punches work great and they won't damage your firearm in any way.

I don't recommend punches for installing tritium sights. Sight pushers only.

They do look a lot better now that I’m getting them all powder coated. The important thing is that they work well.

I had 2 Shield 2.0 9 mm to install sights on. I got the rear sight off of one and the front sight off the other with a Wheeler sight tool. The remaining sights would not move. I took then to the Gunsmith who used a large bench vise and a brass punch to remove the offending sights and install the new sights. The cost was $35 each.
The lesson learned is that sometimes you just have to give up and let the professional do it.

Either that, or have the right tool to begin with. BTW, I have a large, heavy, steel workbench with a very heavy duty vise. I can assure you that either part cost more than any sight pusher that I know of. The brass punch is fairly cheap, but not worth much without the bench and vise. I can pretty much have any type or brand of pusher I want. My go to model is my own basic Mk lll, which I believe is in fact “superior by design” just like the motto says.
