Default M&P 22 LR Compact Thoughts, Opinions...

I wasn't feeling the love with my Buckmark Camper so I sold it off to a friend. I didn't enjoy the feel or balance of the gun and it was sitting in my safe doing nothing.

In my search for a new 22LR pistol, I believe I've narrowed the choices to either a Ruger 22/45 of some flavor or the M&P22C. They both have the grip angle I'm looking for and they both look like they're fun to shoot.

This gun would be strictly for training and plinking purposes. Nothing that requires absolute accuracy (although that would be nice too).

Anyone out there have any opinions of this gun?

A month ago I would have said it's perfect. Then it started having Failure To Return To Battery.

My records showed it had 200 rounds, and had not been cleaned. I gave it a real good cleaning, and it runs like a top.

So now, I'll tell you it runs great, but keep it clean.

I have a 22C with close to 60,000 rounds through it. I bought it back in April of 2014. It's been back to S & W for a roll pin walking out and a firing pin. Other then that it shoots anything I put through it. I do clean it every time I shoot it though, and I think that it key with most 22's. What I like about it is how easy it is to break down and clean and it's a cheap trainer for my Shield 9.

You won't be disappointed if you get the Ruger 22/45. It's a gun you will be able to hand down to your kids.

Both the Ruger and S&W are very appealing.

I will switch it up a bit with a suggestion from another universe......
You are looking for a good grip angle, something fun to shoot, good for training and plinking, with absolute accuracy as a possibility......
The item that comes to the front of my mind is a K-22 (aka Model 17).
You will be afforded all of the things you seek plus so much more.....
Before you say "No", put one in your hands for a test ride.

I had a M&P compact few years ago and great little pistol . If bought another .22 would be a Ruger IV or Buckmark

I had a compact 22; put nearly 1400 trouble free rounds thru it. Had no issues in any ammo i fed it and it was good for plinking. I also have a Buckmark which was far more accurate and felt better though. I ended up leaving the compact home more often than not so got rid of the compact and picked up a Victory.
That one feels and acts very close to my buckmark, except its modular and easy to take down and clean.

So while the compact was good it just wasnt “right” for my wants.

The 22C is fun. I bought it thinking it would be a good and cheap way to train for my Shield 9. Outside of it being similar in size, it feeks nothing like the shield. It’s very lightweight and you really feel the plastic-y aspect of the polymer gun. Now with that being said, if you want a good, fun 22 it’s awesome. Mine won’t shoot Winchester, but it eats everything else from mini mags to golden bullets. If I had it to do over, I’d put that $300 elsewhere.

Thanks everyone....

So I had a chance to shoot my friends Ruger MKIV Target the other day.

I lived everything about it. It pointed well, balanced well, the trigger was pretty darn good without modification and it was unbelievably accurate.

Long story short....I pick mine up on Saturday.
